I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job Episode 10 – Quick Summary
In I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job Episode 10, “I Wanted to be a Hero, but She Didn’t Want to be the Demon Lord,” Fino tried to act like the assault from the end of the previous episode didn’t bother her. But Raul could see nothing was further from the truth. Will they discover who tried to harm Fino? Will they learn the identity of the mysterious stranger who’s shadowing them? And will any of them stop shortening Lamdimia Do Aximemor’s name?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

On the plus side, Fino remains optimistic. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Fino continues to try hard to be a good Reon employee. The slacker assistant manager took advantage of that by asking her to take a customer order without training her. When she tried to share the joy of her first order with Raul, he pointed out that she hadn’t asked which color the customer wanted. She hadn’t even asked for the customer’s contact information!
Raul wasn’t being mean. Instead, he was trying to educate her. He asked leading questions, like how she was going to let the customer know that the order had arrived – assuming they could place the order at all.
Panicked, Fino said (12:46), “He seemed super intuitive. By telepathy?”
She gets major points of positivity.

Raul didn’t get it. Fortunately, Fino had thought about it enough to explain it to him! Capture from the Blu Ray.
Setup: Yes, More Economics!
I’m going to talk about economics a little, but there’s good news! I don’t know a lot about it! That means I’ll be brief by necessity.
I think Ha-Joon Chang said it first (though I’m not sure about that), but capitalism is the worst economic system ever, except for everything that came before it. This show hasn’t shied away from showing some of capitalism’s problems. I still feel sorry for the poor Lonely Eyes! Yet, my favorite moment in the previous episode highlighted Fino’s insight that a capitalist economic system can basically tie everyone’ successes together. She got paid because people shopped at Reon; she used that paycheck to go out and buy things, often from her customers. It’s an economic circle of life!
This week, Fino strikes again – this time in a blow against the military-industrial complex. What? Something that heavy in a show that has a high PPM (panties per minute)? Yep. As you’ll see in my favorite moment, they did it simply and without fuss.
Raul could tell that something still bothered Fino. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Raul could tell Fino was still upset over the assault she had endured during the previous episode. When he asked her about it, he learned that she had been thinking hard about her future. Did she want to become the Demon King? Did she have another goal?
She visibly shocked Raul when she said she wanted to become a store manager. To make sure he understood what she meant, he asked her if being the Demon King or a store manager was more important. She answered, with complete clarity, that she preferred the role of store manager.
But Fino wasn’t done shocking him! She announced that she intended to open the first Reon in the Demon World. How she responded to his reaction is my favorite moment.
Delivery: Being Alive Beats Being Dead
“You’re not thinking it through, Raul,” she said with the exuberance reserved for those with good ideas who haven’t had to withstand the world’s ways of extinguishing such things (09:43). “There are good demons, too. With a shop like Reon, the Demon World will be reborn! It will become a happy place.”
Think about that for a second. Fino is suggesting, in no uncertain terms, that she will launch an economic conquest of the Demon World. She is going to be the agent of economic imperialism. But I’d argue that’s a good thing.
The reason is simple: consider the alternative, which Blaze and Klein helpfully provided. They wanted to spin the military-industrial complex back up. They wanted to restart the manufacture of armor and weapons. Why? For the express purpose of military imperialism. They wanted to kill any demon folk they encountered. And they wanted society to praise them for it.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but if you had to fight, if you had to take your family into battle, would you rather fight with instruments of money, or instruments of steel? Capture from the Blu Ray.
They didn’t serve because society asked them. They demanded to serve because they wanted the accolades. And cash. They wanted the cash, too.
Is economic imperialism a problem? Yep. Is it as big a problem as military imperialism. They’re not even in the same category. Sometimes, economic imperialism can end in death. Just look at the poor Lonely Eyes! And yes, their loss calls out for redress. Military imperialism always ends in death. Battling with economics is at least a step in the right direction.
One of the hardest truths that I, as a perfectionist, have had to accept is this: don’t let perfect be the enemy of the good. Fino understands that. Raul will, soon enough. The opportunity to have this little conversation was my favorite moment of the episode!
What did you think of Lamdimia Do Aximemor blowing off Raid? What were your favorite moments in this episode? Feel free to share in the comments!
