I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job Episode 3 – Quick Summary

In I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job Episode 3, “We Should be Careful When Handling Weird Products Sent to Us by Corporate,” Raul Chaser starts the phase of his life marked by being Fino Bloodstone neighbor. Things start off rough when she sleeps through her obnoxious alarm. Will she ever learn the idea of modesty? Later, Fino switches on a new, off-brand air cleaner – that immediately sprouts many “witches arms.” Which is actually just another term for slime tentacles. Can Raul and Fino stop the rampaging arms from wreaking havoc with the store – and the clothing of Elsa_Crucial, Nova Luminous, and even Airi Ortinet?

I Couldn't Become a Hero So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job Episode 3: Elsa found herself upside down

I kind of feel bad telling her the answer is “no!” Capture from the Blu Ray.

Well, if they’re going to have tentacles, at least they went the extra mile and tried to dress them up as “witch’s arms.” Yeah, they’re still tentacles, and yeah, they still got all grabby. Still, I appreciate the extra effort.

Elsa’s a fun character. She loves new gadgets, so she was intensely curious about the new air freshener, even if it was a non-name brand. She liked technology so much that she was only mildly alarmed when the witches arms picked her up and hauled her into the air.

I’ll give her credit for athleticism: I have no idea how she kept her knees together hanging upside down! She must not have skipped leg day at the gym.

There are times, though, when she lets her love of technology overwhelm her good sense. Like in my favorite quote, which was (13:14), “Is this a new feature?”

Based on her expression, she might have been overly optimistic in asking.

Setup: Expected Versus Actual

The show’s doing a good job showing how Fino is very unlike the stereotypes that heroes like Airi have about demons. Is Fino typical of her kind? We don’t know, and it’s not really important to the story. What’s important is that Airi got her first view of the real Fino when she fought to protect Airi, Nova, and Elsa. Airi might not be certain yet that Fino is a demon, but if she finds out, she’ll have a lot to think about.

I Couldn't Become a Hero So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job Episode 3: Fino was absolutely determined to help Airi

Despite the threat to her person (and her modesty), Fino didn’t hesitate to help Airi. Capture from the Blu Ray.

Before the Incident of the Witches’ Arms, Fino showed us a little more of what kind of person she is. It really worked for me, because it fit so well into what we’ve learned about her so far.

Fino is such a kind-hearted person – at least to the extent possible given her upbringing. We’ve had indications that her view of acceptable social behavior skews towards the bloody, like when she made a sales poster that looked more like the ad for a horror movie (04:36). But it’s her attitude towards life and her job that I admire.

Delivery: Fino’s Finding Her Voice

She showed that attitude as part of my favorite moment. A customer brought in a magic fan that had just stopped working. Raul immediately thought it was time to replace it. Hearing that made the customer appear crestfallen. Fino took up her cause and convinced Raul to try to fix it. Fortunately for the customer, Lore Beliferal arrived and took over the repairs. She’s the professional; Raul looked like he might end up stabbing his own hand with the screwdriver.

As soon as Lore said she’d take the repair job, the customer seemed relieved and happy. She thanked Lore before thanking Fino and Raul.

As she walked off, Fino got this big, uninhibited smile on her face. Fino said (06:24), “She said, ‘Thank you.’ Did you see that, Raul? A customer thanked me. Oh my god! My heart is pounding!”

She was so happy she had earned a customer’s thanks that she almost couldn’t contain her joy. Quite a different picture of a demon than Airi painted elsewhere in this episode!
