I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job Episode 6 – Quick Summary
In I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job Episode 6, “She Couldn’t Become a Hero, so She Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job, Too,” Airi Ortinet felt absolutely humiliated that she ran into Raul Chaser and Fino Bloodstone at Amada’s grand opening. Not because she had finally broken down and had gotten a job, but because her job demanded she dress in a bunny costume! Can she overcome the humiliation? And is she the only Amada employee who knows who Raul and Fino really are – namely, employees of Reon, Amada’s competitor?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

I’m sure Fino was just trying to show off her powers of observation. Capture from the Blu Ray.
We can file this under “Fino Still Needs to Learn Honesty Isn’t Always the Best Policy.” It likely also provides that my sense of humor froze sometime when I was in sixth grade. I should probably look into that – it might be nice to have an adult sense of humor at some point.
Though there are always pros and cons, aren’t there?
Raul and Fino had just run into Airi at Amada’s grand opening. She tried to say that she was working security, but Raul commented that he didn’t see any weapons. In her bunny costume. Because they would have, you know, stuck out or something.
“Oh!” Fino said brightly (02:12). “You must be hiding it between your breasts! Wow! It must be a really tiny weapon!”
Some things are best left unsaid, Fino!

On the bright side, Raul projected an indomitable spirit! Capture from the Blu Ray.
Setup: Capitalism, The Worst Economic System – Except Everything That Came Before It
In my previous post, I said that I thought Jun Sakyou, had experience in retail. This episode strengthened that feeling. The way the episode portrayed one of Amada’s suppliers mistreated their Lonely Eye monsters drove that home. Those creatures were great for performing repetitive tasks, but (09:58)“the only downside is that they die off quickly.” That was one chilling metaphor for laborers in a capitalistic society. Kudos to Lore Beliferal for trying to assert that customers would rebel if they knew how these products were made.
Unfortunately, their guide said (10:!1), “Products are products, no matter who makes them.” The insinuation is that even if customers knew, they really wouldn’t care. And that’s how, in one small scene, the show critiqued the race to the bottom.
I’m pretty sure that Lonely Eye didn’t have union representation. Capture from the Blu Ray.
But hey, we won. That’s something, right?
I’ll give that a moment to sink in.
Have you ever been in a situation where you knew you should keep your mouth shut, but your pride asked, very politely, for you to hold its beer? Raul had a moment like that in this episode. It was endearing, to me at least. And it seemed to give Airi hope, at least for a moment.
Amada had pulled Raul and Fino aside, saying they knew who they were any why they were here. Ciel Script even more or less offered Raul a job. The idea was, Amada would eventually crush Reon, and probably sooner rather than later. Wouldn’t Raul prefer working for the winning side?
Delivery: Raul’s Pride is Writing Checks!
“You really did your research, but not quite enough,” Raul said (11:33), and you could just see his warrior mode kicking in. “Nothing motivates me more than tough competition.”
Ciel and the other Amada employee seemed taken aback. Sensing a momentary advantage, Raul pressed on, saying, “Don’t underestimate Reon. Wisdom, courage, effort and friendship. And never give up.”
Airi looked inspired. Fino looked happy and impressed! But when Raul and Fino reported their experience to Seara August and the others back at Reon, Serara first applauded him, then said the situation now was his responsibility. Surprisingly, Fino was the one who was best able to clear up Raul’s confusion.
“Raul, that was a declaration of war!” she said happily (13:21).
Fino seemed pretty excited about the idea of war with Amada! Capture from the Blu Ray.
There are times pride makes us say stuff we’d prefer not to say. But there’s something in the human psyche that responds, for better or worse. Raul’s resolve inspired Airi. It excited Fino, and it impressed Seara. But it put Raul on the front lines of a battle he and his company were were ill-equipped to win.
You know what? That might not be a bad thing after all!
What did you think of Raul’s dedication to the lady who just wanted a simple-to-use air conditioner? What were your favorite moments in this episode? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
