Infinite Stratos Season 1 Episode 1 – Quick Summary
In Infinite Stratos Season 1 episode 1, “All of My Classmates Are Female,” Ichika Orimura found himself in a situation that should have been enviable: he was the only male in the training academy for the Infinite Stratos mechanical suits. Unfortunately, things weren’t going his way otherwise. His childhood friend, Houki Shinonono, seemed seriously angry with him. The technical classes were way over his head. And then there was the problem of restrooms… Would he be able to enjoy his time at school? Or was this just the beginning of his troubles?

Favorite Quote from Infinite Stratos Season 1 Episode 1
Apparently, Chifuyu wasn’t into accepting worship. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Ordinarily, I prefer subs. It’s not that I’ve taken sides in the Great Sub vs Dub War – though I did weigh in on the topic. It’s just that I like the sound of the Japanese language. It seems to make the anime experience more “anime,” if you know what I mean.
But I strongly prefer the dubbed version of Infinite Stratos. The voice actors were fantastic, and the writers perfectly captured the characters. Not only that, but they paid attention to background characters, too.
One of those backgrounds was actually my favorite quote of the episode. Chifuyu Orimura, Ichika’s older sister, was a legend in the Infinite Stratos world. She had been an amazing competitor, and now she taught at the IS Academy. A lot of the students apparently idolized her, too – maybe even to an unhealthy level.
When Chifuyu introduced herself, the class went wild – as if she were a rock star or something. One of them said Chifuyu was the reason she’d come to this school; another even said she’d die for her. My favorite, though, sounded like the speaker needed a moment alone.
“Scold us more!” that one cried out (06:09) after Chifuyu wondered aloud if they sent all of the crazy students to her class. Then she added, in a voice that gave away her kink, “Cuss us out!”
I refuse to kink-shame. And wow, did she sound like she was really into the idea!
Favorite Moment from Infinite Stratos Season 1 Episode 1
Cecilia could not believe that Ichika had defeated an instructor. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Setup: A Mostly Harmless Anime
Let’s get this out of the way: I really like this series. As in, it’s one of the few I rewatch despite my backlog growing large enough to rival the smaller planets in our solar system. The animation is exceedingly pleasant to watch. I like the characters and I like the music. I even like how the ED adds characters as they meet Ichika.
So if you liked the series, too, then let’s have fun reliving some of our favorite moments! And if you didn’t love it, or if you hated it, I won’t complain if you skip these reviews. No hard feelings! The goal is to enjoy ourselves, after all!
I doubt that you’ll find this series winning any awards for breaking new ground. But it’s a lot of fun to watch for what it is! Capture from the Blu Ray.
One of the show’s appeals is its characters. I can’t make the argument that Ichika is a great harem main character (MC). But on the scale of worst (Rito Yuuki) to best Kimihito “Darling-kun” Kurusu), Ichika’s right in the middle, tending Rito. He’s good-natured, and he never intentionally mistreats anyone. That counts for something! Quite a lot, actually.
Delivery: Cecilia is Easy to Tease
There’s actually a trait of Ichika’s that I like (but I’ll deny it if you tell anyone!). That’s his self-deprecating sense of humor. When Cecilia Alcott bragged that she was one of the only students to ever have beaten an instructor, Ichika mentioned that he had, too.
She was astonished. Actually, it’s more like she was shocked and offended. It was like he had just called into question her entire world view – which, now that I think about it, he probably had.
“Maybe it really wasn’t ‘defeat.’” he said, picking up a folder and starting to thumb through it (13:10). “But when the instructor charged at me, I dodged, she smashed into the wall, and ka-boom!”
He didn’t even embellish what he’d done! He was very humble when he described it. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Sputtering, she protested that she had been told she was the only one to achieve that.
“They might have meant you were the only female,” he said. What’s funny about that? I think he might actually have thought he was reassuring her! Of course, his words had the opposite effect, which is just part of the fun. Yes, Cecilia’s talented and intelligent. But she’s a bit of a braggart, so it’s fun to see her flustered like that.
Did I mention I also like the uniform designs? It’s a refreshing departure from the usual school aesthetic.
What did you think of Ichika finding out he was rooming with Houki? What were your favorite moments in the episode? Feel free to share in the comments!

I loved this anime when I was in highschool! I’m totally going to start reading the novel soon!
Cool! I hope you’ll review it on your site! I’d love to read your thoughts on it.
Oh your in for a real treat Crow. This is a show that has aged damn well, a good example of fun B-tier harem.
And CGI in anime that is actually done well.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve watched this series! The first season more than the second, but I really enjoy it. You’re right — the CGI is well done. Most of the time, it blends right in!
And considering that it was done almost a decade ago, that’s real impressive.
