Infinite Stratos Season 1 Episode 6 – Quick Summary
In Infinite Stratos Season 1 episode 6, “My Roommate is a Young, Blonde Nobleman,” Ichika suspects he knows why Laura Bodewig hates him, but he keeps it to himself. That is, until Charles had to save him from Laura’s unprovoked attack during a training session. Charles, Houki, Rin, and Cecilia had been trying with varying levels of success to train Ichika. How much longer can he keep his secret from them? What does Chifuyu think about what’s happening? And it turns out Ichika isn’t the only one with a secret!

Ichika’s denseness is becoming legendary. His friends notice it (as we saw with Dan Gotanda in the previous episode). In this episode, Rin said it the loudest – though I don’t think it’s the first time she, Houki, or Cecilia saw it.
In this episode, Charles (okay, we now know she’s a she and is really named Charlotte) wanted to help Ichika improve his game. Rin, Houki, and Cecilia were such accomplished pilots that they can’t teach. I’ve seen that happen before. Their skill is innate, and they’re so successful that they can’t understand how to package the information in a way that Ichika could consume.
But Charles? Turns out Charles is a great teacher. He (yeah, I know, she, but at this point in the episode, I still thought of her as a “he”) turned out to have a knack for breaking the information down in a way Ichika could understand. Charles even helped Ichika learn how to shoot an IS rifle.To do so, Charles had to get really close to Ichika to help with his stance.
“Hey,” Rin said in an aggrieved voice, her hands on her hips (05:11), “doesn’t it seem like those two are getting along just a little too well?”
And Ichika still had no idea what was going on.

Setup: More Fun with Sub vs. Dub
And Charlotte joins the ED (22:17)!
I tell you what: whoever wrote the script for the dub had a great ear for character. And the voice actors? They nailed it. In this episode, I want to call out Cecilia’s voice actor, Brittney Karbowski, because she really made Cecilia come alive. She sounded natural and authentic. Most of all, she sounded like Ceilcia.
Here are some more examples of why I like the dub in this case more than sub:
- 13:22: Shortly after Ichika discovers Charles is really Charlotte, Ichika burns his hand with hot tea. When he runs cold water over his hand, Charlotte comes over to see if he’s okay. She gets so close she accidentally rests of breasts on his upper arm.
- Sub: Ichika says, “Well, they’re touching me.” “Ichika, you letch!” “Why?”
- Dub: Ichika said, “Those… they’re touching me.” “You’re a pervert.” “How in the hell do you figure that?”
- 19:06: Houki discovers that Cecilia has hijacked Ichika for dinner. Houki says she’s still hungry, so she’ll join them.
- Sub: Cecilia says, “Oh my, Miss Houki, you know excessive eating will cause you to gain weight.”
- Dub: Cecilia says, “Very well, but eating like that is sure to put even more weight on that boyish figure of yours.” Though to be fair, I checked, and Houki does not have a “boyish figure.” But Cecilia’s jab was still funny.

- 19:36: Now forced to escort both young women to dinner, Ichika complained that it was really hard to walk. Both of them pinched him, with Houki basically telling him to shut up.
- Sub: Cecilia said, “You don’t even realize the happiness of it.”
- Dub: Cecilia said, “Yes, such as how deliriously happy you are, you lucky dog.” Just listen to the humor in her voice!
Bottom line: This episode’s dub continued to delight me.
Delivery: Ichika Actually Studied? Who Knew?
Charlotte clearly felt desperate. Relieved at no longer having to live her lie, but still in dire straights. Her father had used her in an attempt to gather information about Ichika and his personal IS unit. Now, she expected that the best outcome for her was jail in France, her home country.
Ichika might be a dense idiot. But he’s a well-meaning idiot. He found it absolutely repellent that Charlotte’s father would use her like that. Further, he was incensed that she might have to pay for what was basically her father’s malfeasance. So Ichika did something shocking: he proved he had actually applied himself when studying.
He rushed to his desk and pulled out the IS Academy manual. Opening it to the page he remembered, he said (16:56), “It’s right here in the IS Academy manual. All students of the IS Academy are under its exclusive control. And no nation, organization, or other group can interfere with their attendance here. In other words, you’ll be safe for at least the next three years!”
Charlotte is such a gracious soul. It’s hard not to root for her! Capture from the Blu Ray.
His studies had paid off: just like that, he put Charlotte’s mind at ease. Now she not only had the time to come up with a more permanent plan. She could also improve her piloting skills and enjoy her academy life. Ichika, to his credit, was happy to have helped. So, points for not being a letch (regardless of what the sub said!).
