Bell Cranel and the others in Hestia’s Familia were exploring a dungeon when Bell came upon a strange monster. It was strange because it didn’t act like a monster at all. Instead of attacking him on sight, it looked up at him with big, tear-filled eyes. Even more intriguing, another monster tried to attack it. So Bell did was Bell always does.
When Liliruca “Lili” Arde, Welf Crozzo, and Mikoto Yamato caught up to them, Bell had to physically put himself between the monster and his own team. They saw a monster to be killed; he had seen something else.
How did Bell and his friends reconcile this moment? What will Hestia say about it? And wouldn’t breaking convention this way endanger their entire Familia?

DanMachi III/IIWTTTPUGIAD Episode 2, “Monster | One Wing,” brought us some god-tier politics. Literally — as in politics among the gods, which is something that DanMachi has always enjoyed doing. In addition, we got to see how Lili recovered from foot in mouth disease (and boy, did she have a bad case of it!). But we’ll get to that in a minute.
Welcome to the collaboration review between Irina (from I Drink and Watch Anime) and this site. Before we get into the review, do you have any opening thoughts, Irina?
I realize that everyone let me know last week that IIWTTTPUGIAD looks just as good as it ever did but I continue to think it’s looking a bit better. Or rather a bit more detailed. Like no radical changes to character models or anything, they just look a bit crisper and they have a touch of texture to their skins and lots of folds in their clothing…
I dunno maybe I’m cuckoo banana plants. But if I have some type of disease that makes me think anime looks better than it actually does, I’m k with just living with the symptoms.
Episode 3: Xenos | Outliers

DanMachi III (a.k.a. “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? III” and a.k.a. IIWTTTPUGIAD) episode 3, “Xenos | Outliers,” gives us some much anticipated dungeon goodness! Also, Hestia gets some time in the spotlight, which is always welcome because let’s face it. Sometimes, it’s easy to forget she’s a goddess! And that’s not all! First I want to thank you for picking up the lead on this one. I really thought I might be able to take care of it during the day but evening snuck up on me faster than I thought. In any case, thanks again for stepping in. I really appreciate you taking the lead on this one.

Five minutes into “Ikelos Familia | King of Atrocity,” IIWTTTPUGIAD/DanMachi III episode 5, I made the note, “Can we trade in villains?” I’ve about had all I need from Dix and company. Rayne was starting to grow on me, too… Welcome to Irina (from I Drink and Watch Anime) and my collaboration review of the fifth episode!
As I write this, we’re about to the end of election 2020. It’s done everything it can to live up to the standards of disaster that 2020 has established, and by golly, it’s exceeded my wildest hopes. Or whatever is 180 degrees away from hope. How’re thing in your part of the world, Irina?
I don’t know how you guys are coping. I’m super stressed out about the US elections and I’m neither a particularly political or a particularly stressed person. And I don’t want to turn Crow’s site in some political nightmare so I’ll refrain from expressing any of my particular biases but man… We are living through some strange aeons indeed.
This said, I have hope. It’s a bit in the nowhere to go but up, nothing left to lose type of hope, but hope nevertheless.
Episode 6: Knossos | Man-Made Labyrinth
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? III Episode 6 – A Man Named Modaka
In DanMachi III/IIWTTTPUGIAD III episode 6, “Knossos | Man-Made Labyrinth,” Bell is determined to find Lyd and get the truth about Xenos’ involvement in the attack on the human village. Was Xenos really behind it? Was it as bad as Bell had heard? Will Lyd even talk to him?
Meanwhile, the Ganesha Familia continued their hunt with the goal of capturing all of Xenos. Their hunting party was huge and skilled, but there seemed to be a little confusion. They couldn’t seem to get Modaka’s name fight, for starters…
Finally, Bell and Fels learn a startling truth about Dix, his squad, and his lair. There’s not history there than anyone had guess. Ancient history, in fact. And now Bell has to make a difficult and dangerous choice. Hanging in the balance is more than his new friend’s safety…

Episode 7: Dix Perdix | The Dreams of Beasts
Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? III Episode 7: Bell Takes On Wiene And The World
DanMachi III Episode 7, “Dix Perdix | The Dreams of Beasts,” did something I didn’t think the series would be able to do. It made me dislike Dix Perdix even more! I really wouldn’t mind trading in this villain for another. Especially in 2020, his brand of intolerance is hitting waaaay too close to home. Watching him, I feel like I’m reading the Facebook commentary on current events from some of the people I grew up with.
But before I get too far into the weeds, hi, Irina (from I Drink and Watch Anime)! I hope your week has gone well. Are you and the rest of Canada as concerned as I am about how close our little social experiment here in the USA (i.e., the whole democracy thing) has come to imploding?
We actually are. You guys have a lot of guns. But seriously, the idea that the politics and decisions of one country only affects its citizens is fairly outdated. Especially with a country that has as much influence as the US. So I’m sure everyone cares.
I also really hope you get a handle on the second wave. With a bit of luck having someone who wants to do something about in power will help.
Episode 8: Bell Cranel | The Fool
Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? III Episode 8 – An Enemy Of Humanity
In DanMachi III episode 8, “Episode 8 – Bell Cranel | The Fool,” Bell stands up for Wiene against the entire Loki Familia. His fast thinking prevented the situation from going completely out of control. Unfortunately, the stand-off didn’t last long, because Wiene wrenched the spear from her shoulder and dashed off into the city.
Unfortunately, well… See, the thing is… DanMachi III Episode 8 went rather down hill from there. How far did it go? Did it recover at the end? Will Irina and Crow actually publish a negative review?
Okay, we have before, so it’s not that big a deal. Put it this way: IIWTTTPUGIAD III had been going really, really well. What happened?

In Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? III Episode 9, “Stigma | Downfall,” we get a narrative upgrade from the previous episode, which is a welcome development! The show gives us five interesting plot points that either acknowledge events leading up to this episode, or prepare us for the next episode.
But before we get into that, how was your week, Irina (from I Drink and Watch Anime)? Things in the US have quieted a bit, at least on the political front. Nothing’s resolved, really, because the fractures and weaknesses that brought us to the point are still alive and strong. That, and the USA just passed 264,000 COVID fatalities. Guess we’re number 1 in something…
I don’t want to pour salt in your wounds but the COVID situation in the US is devastating. I truly hope you all are safe and that you come out of this doing well. I know how tough it is. I know how spoiled I am. If I get sick or even want to be tested, it’s absolutely free and my insurance won’t go up or anything. I can’t imagine the stress of not only coping with a pandemic but knowing that even if you don’t have any lasting health issues, getting sick is still likely to add some financial burden.
Episode 10: Invisible | Forced Breakthrough
Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? III Episode 10: Wild Bell Chase
In DanMachi III Episode 10, “Invisible | Forced Breakthrough,” Bell’s trying to distract Finn and the rest of Loki Familia as they close in on the Xenos above ground. Does Finn know Bell’s just a distraction? If he does, will Hestia Familia’s crumble into dust? Or do both sides have more than one card to play?
Not content with the central drama, DanMachi III Episode 10 gives us even more to worry about. For example, why are so many attractive women visiting with Bell — right in front of Ais’ watchful stare? Why is Eina so angry with Bell? Will Hermes really give her good directions to find Bell?

Well, vaccines have started rolling out in England and we are starting our first inoculations up here on Monday. That’s good.
I also found out that Momonga are actually a type of Japanese flying dwarf squirrel and potentially one of the cutest animals out there. If you want to go Google that right now, it’s o.k. We’ll wait for you. Won’t we Crow? See!!! Ok, now imagine those adorable little fur balls in your Christmas three. Best decorations ever! Am I right?

In Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? III/DanMachi III Episode 12, “Argonaut | Hero’s Return,” we reach the twelfth and final episode of the season. At the end of the previous episode, Hermes made a terrible request of the Xenos. In response, Bell has some very, very tough choices to make. How will he maintain faith with Lyd and the others of the Xenos? How will he react to Hermes’ machinations?
