Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 Episode 13 – Quick Summary
In Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 Episode 13, “My Dream Home,” Rudy has proposed to Sylphie. But he has no idea what that means. So, he turns to his friends Cliff and Zanoba, who inform him that a house would be a good place to start. But in order to afford the house, he had to pick one that was possessed. Should be easy for him to exorcize, right? The best laid plans…

Every party should have a Zanoba in it. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I play a lot of video games. I don’t have any real dungeon crawling experience (who does in this day and age?), but I have a sense for these things (insofar as they resemble the aforementioned video games). And I think Rudy, Cliff, and Zanoba handled the monster hunt mostly well.
Cliff heard a noise and did not ignore it. They went through each room as a team – not even once did someone call out “Let’s split up!” Even when they’d swept the house but found nothing, they didn’t declare an all-clear. They headed back to their room – I mean, their base camp – prepared.
So I’ll forgive Rudy for not being more three-dimensionally aware when they started the hunt. They assumed they were on the top floor. So it was only on their way back to the room that Rudy looked up – to see the monster’s fingers.
It pounced. Rudy’s first stone cone/missile just bounced off. Zanoba jumped between Rudy and the critter, which struck – only to have its attacks bounce off Zanoba.
“I’m a Blessed Child. A little thing like this won’t leave a scratch,” he said, reality proving him correct (12:31).
It’s cool Rudy has friends he can depend on!
Favorite Moment from Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 Episode 13
Rudy has turned into quite the thoughtful young man, judging from Sylphie’s expression. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Rudy Has Matured
Rudy’s growing up. By that, I mean he continues to develop an awareness of others and his ability to help them. It doesn’t seem like a tit for tat sort of thing. It seems like he sees those around him as people, not things or tools for him to manipulate.
Look at how he responded to Zanoba asking to lead research into the doll. Rudy express a little doubt up front, and Cliff even voiced concern about the doll getting loose and hurting people. Zanoba addressed those concerns until he got across to Rudy that this was something he was passionate about. Moreover, Zanoba felt like he didn’t contribute enough otherwise. So Rudy agreed to hand the reins over to him.
Rudy trusted Zanoba to research the doll. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
But my favorite moment was Rudy showing the new house to Sylphie (after fixing most of it up – which was itself a thoughtful thing). At first, I worried she might be a little hurt that he didn’t consult with her. He worried about that a little, too! But it turns out we need not have worried.First, she had, through various means known only to her, figured out that he had bought a house. So she was not only prepared, but really excited to see what he’d bought. Second, she seemed perfectly comfortable with him making the decisions. She’s not Eris, after all. I can’t imagine Eris letting him make all those decisions. But Sylphie? That’s in character for her.
Delivery: The House of Several Gable-Like Structures
My favorite moment is when she first caught sight of the house. She was blown away (19:24). There was something about the color of the roof. At first, I wondered how it got it that color. Did he artificially age copper? I’ve heard you can do that. But it didn’t really understand what he’d done until he spoke up.
“I made the roof close to your old hair color,” he said (19:40). “I really liked it, even if you didn’t.”
Rudy seemed relieved that Sylphie liked the outside of the house. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
She seemed genuinely touched. It’s not Earth-shattering, but character growth like Rudy has shown is a staple of well-crafted fiction, and “well-crafted” is absolutely a description I’d give this show. The fantasy elements alone would carry it. The action, too. But combining great characters who change and mature over time pushes this show into the level of literature. At least, it does for me. I’d compare this to anything from Nathaniel Hawthorne or writers like him any day.
Only time will tell, of course. We’ll see if a hundred years from now, anyone remembers Jobless Reincarnation. In the meantime, I’m certainly enjoying it!
