Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 Episode 19 – Quick Summary

In Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 Episode 19, “Desert Journey,” Rudy has to face one of his toughest challenges yet: he has to tell Sylphy that he’s leaving for over a year to help his mother and father. How will he break the news to her? How will she react? And will Elinalise, who decided to go with Rudy, find the courage to tell Cliff? Or will she just leave?

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 Episode 19: Aisha tried to step up to help Sylphy

Aisha was determined to do her best. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Apparently, Norn had neglected to read Aisha into Rudy’s plan to leave. Because when the time came, she was as shocked as Sylphy. More shocked, probably – I have a sneaking suspicion that Sylphy knew something was coming. She knows Rudy better that anyone.

But Aisha didn’t know. So, when Rudy announced it and Sylphy calmly accepted it, Aisha was freaked out. She was even more freaked out when asked if he could count on her.

Keep in mind this is Lilya’s daughter. Lilya raised her to be strong and resourceful. So did she panic? Well, maybe a little. But she tried to step up as she said (06:36), “I… think I can handle things.”

In an episode with a lot of cool quotes, this one struck me because it showed one of the series’ strengths: its side characters. We know where Aisha’s been; we know what this moment means to her. Hearing how she said she would step up sounded inspiring.

Favorite Moment from Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 Episode 19

Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 Episode 19: Elinalise will never forgive Paul

Elinalise reminded us that this is a wide, complex world. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

A Rich World with Lots of Opportunities

This episode should have been subtitled “In Case You Forgot, Yes, They Can Fight.” Between Elinalise taking down the succubus and Rudy and Elinalise’s tag-team on the griffons, we got to experience some cool reintroductions to the action side of this show.

It was also emotionally satisfying to see Rudy saying goodbye with Sylphy trying to be strong. I wanted to mention Elinalise and Cliff’s goodbye, too. The elf is a powerful warrior, as the show reminded us this week. But her curse makes her lonely, and seeing her react to Cliff’s proposal was both heart-warming and nervous-making. The whole let’s-get-married-when-I-get-back trope is a huge red flag.

And hey – is it just me, or did the mammoth scorpion we saw in this episode (around 17:34) look like it came right out of Fallout 3?

Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 Episode 19: Elinalise and Rudy make an effective combat duo

Elinalise played tank as Rudy shot the giant scorpion. I wish she was a non-player character in Fallout 3! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

This was a transition episode. There were lots of moments I thoroughly enjoyed, but few that jumped out and screamed “I’m your favorite!” But there was one moment that brought together engrossing character development and a sense of expectation.

It was near the end of the episode. Rudy and Elinalise were camping in the desert. They were talking, and the topic of her relationship with Paul came up. Rudy said that the last time he talked to Paul, Paul spoke of his desire to apologize to the elf. Rudy asked, tentatively, what had happened between them.

In a light, almost joking tone, she said he’d better not ask. “You don’t want to hear about your father’s messy love affairs, do you?” she asked (21:25). Rudy seemed almost relieved she wouldn’t answer. But he reiterated that Paul would probably apologize to her when they next met.Looking away from Rudy, likely so he couldn’t see her expression, Elinalise said (21:43), “Nothing he can say would make me forgive him.”

A Glimpse into a Wider World

Boom. Just like that, she reminded us that there’s a whole story there. Probably more than one. It’s one of the threads that make this world so interesting and believable. And Rifujin na Magonote, the pen name of the author who wrote this series, is smart enough not to just tell us what happened. After this episode, I’m left with an open logic loop. It helps keep my interest alive. Plus, it’s about Elinalise, who I love as a character.

No – it’s not just because of the salacious nature of her curse. This story’s world is an adult world. Not in the sense of pornography, but in its willingness to address issues that adults have to address. It does so without being shy about it. If I had to pick what I like about this in addition to its characters and its world, it would be its courage. In a world where you can get into equally bad trouble for suggesting that uncontrolled access to lethal firearms might be a topic for discussion or nipples are not an indication of Satanic influence, addressing anything honestly and openly takes guts.

Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 Episode 19: Jobless Reincarnation tackles mature topics

The people in this universe have a sex drive. Astonishing, isn’t it? Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

I say this as a writer. There are times when I have to ask myself if I really want to address a given theme. Since my novels tend to ask questions of a grown-up nature, there are times I stop tying and ask myself if I really want to put myself at risk like that. I can completely understand why Rifujin na Magonote used a pen-name, even as I admire the courage that went into this work. My favorite moment was a reminder of all of that.

Kinda cool a single moment can kick off that train of thought, isn’t it?What did you think of Nanahoshi’s reaction to Rudy’s announcement? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!

  1. I liked how the succubus’ remote control lust initially caused Rudy to go for Elinalise. This tells me its a generic overwhelming lust power that’s directed at whatever is most convenient and not specifically at the succubus. Rudy would be uniquely vulnerable.

We already know something very bad is going to happen on this trip. Man-god said so. In the fights, it almost looks like they’ve downrated Rudy’s power level. He’s done much more spectacular stuff in the past.

It is sad that so many people react with so much vehemence against even discussing topics. It is more like a religious war than a policy dispute

    1. I wonder if Rudy has to throttle back to protect Elinalise? I mean, some of his attacks have a wide blast area!

I had a feeling when they showed Rudy dispel the sandstorm that the narrative was reminding us that yes, he can still fight. I think the next few episodes will show what Rudy can do.

I agree with you — it’s sad. They’re depriving themselves of a great bit of fiction. Worse — they’re trying to deprive others.

I’m trying to figure out how to convey the idea that if I don’t like something, that doesn’t entitle me to attack and harm others. We used to recognize that freedom is a good idea. Now? People seem to think it’s pie — more freedom for others means less pie for me.

I wish I knew who created that meme — it fits so well!

Please let me know what you think!
