Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 Episode 04 – Quick Summary

In Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 episode 04, “A King-Class Water Mage,” Rudy has to bid farewell to his father’s old party members like Geese. But before he can adjust to their absence, he discovers that Aisha has taken a bona-fide monster as a pet. When he tries to talk her out of it, she threatens to blackmail him – with his most closely guarded secret. How can Rudy get out of this situation with his secret, and his marriages, intact?

Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 Episode 04: Sylphie's assumption was completely understandable

I can’t blame “Fitz” for making such a mistake. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

To file under, “His reputation proceeded him…”

Rudy was in the college’s courtyard trying to convince Roxy to do – something. Whatever it was, she clearly didn’t want to do it. But Rudy was so insistent, and so persistent, that they drew a crowd.

So much so that the student council had to show up – with “Fitz” in tow. When the student council guy realized who he was dealing with, he turned the situation over to “Fitz.” She agreed, but reluctantly.

She clearly had her own impression of what Rudy was trying to do, because she went on at length about how he shouldn’t try to force even his wife because sometimes, women just aren’t in the mood.

Then Rudy said he wanted Roxy to teach Sylphie, too. That’s when “Fitz” realized something.

“Um…” she began (12:05). “Rudy, what are you talking about?”

It’s not surprising that Sylphie would assume a lusty Greyrat would be talking about sex. The surprise is that he wasn’t! Rudy’s come quite a long way.

Favorite Moment from Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 Episode 04

Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 Episode 04: Rudy and Zanoba celebrated Julie's achievement

Little moments like this make the show worth watching. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Am I the only one freaking out at how calm everything else? The first three episodes, and this episode in particular, seem to drive home one central message: Rudy’s life is amazing. Put another way: Rudy has so, so much to lose.

I half expected his lesson with Roxy to end with him creating another space/time rift that sent everyone all over the planet.

I don’t know when things are going to blow apart. But in the meantime, I’m enjoying the view we have of the life Rudy and his family has created. It’s wholesome, and it’s a night-and-day difference from his old life. As Rudy himself said in this episode (13:09), “Everything’s coming up roses.”

And it’s making me anxious as heck!

Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 Episode 04: Rudy has an amazing life -- and so, so much to lose

That’s a very nice family you have there. It would be a shame if something were to happen to it… Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

My favorite moment is an example of wholesomeness that actually happened outside of Rudy’s household. He and Cliff were analyzing a hydra scale when Zanoba entered, Julie in tow. She had just created a new figure of Ruijerd

Rudy clearly felt impressed. The level of detail was astounding. Zanoba gushed with praise for her. He went so far as to suggest that her skill now rivaled Rudy’s.

At first, I was worried that Rudy might object. But no – he enthusiastically endorsed the idea. Overjoyed, Julie exclaimed (12:05), “Master!” and threw herself into Zanoba’s arms. For his part, he answered, “That’s wonderful, Julie! Persisting in your daily training has paid off!”

She was effervescent; he was like a proud (very proud!) papa. It was one of those heartwarming scenes that Jobless Reincarnation pulls off effortlessly.

And yes, it, too, made me anxious for what might be coming!

What did you think of Aisha’s attempt at blackmail? What were your favorite moments? Feel feel to let me know in the comments!

  1. This looks so much like a set-up episode, displaying the idyll before the storm blows through… And they led in with Eris (who will, in the end, be part of the harem – it’s that type of show).

I thought the teaching scene was silly: Roxy casts spell; Rudy watches and casts spell. Is that even teaching? It feels like a clumsy narrative short cut. It’s ultimately okay, because that’s not where the accent is, but it kind of undermines Roxy’s teacher status to my mind. I’m also put in the mind of your regular anime tutoring sessions (you use this formula here) – if you’ve helped classmates before you know that sort of teaching is going to get blank looks. And with magic? Most of the stuff that goes on isn’t observable – what did Rudy get out of Roxy that he couldn’t have gotten out of a book?

Your favourite scene would have been mine, too. That was just so cute.

    1. I initially had the same reaction to Roxy “teaching” Rudy. In retrospect, though, I suspect the scene’s purpose wasn’t really the teaching bit. It was the Roxy/Sylphie bonding bit at the end.

Though, like you mentioned, I would have loved to see more about how magic is taught. That bit was a let down.

  2. I am not so sure that I would say Aisha “attempted” to blackmail Rudy, so much as I would say that it was a wild success which was aborted just in time.

    1. Yeah, Aisha’s a dangerous one! That said, part of me wondered if she would actually have been willing to place her comfortable world in danger. After all, I can’t believe Roxy would have reacted well.

Though, thinking further about it, I suspect Sylphie might have just shrugged and said, “Well, it’s Rudy, isn’t it?”

Please let me know what you think!
