Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 Episode 08 – Quick Summary
In Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 episode 08, “The Flying Fortress,” Rudy, Sylphie, Shizuka, and several others traveled to the flying castle of King Perugius, the hero who defeated Laplace. Rudy is immediately apprehensive because he has prior experience with the familiar sent to transport them, Almanfi the Radiant, just before the great teleportation event. But Almanfi gave no sign he recognized Rudy. Will Rudy’s relationship to the Hitogami be a problem? Will his history? And why does Shizuka seem to be getting sicker?

Roxy is such a gentle soul. I remember in earlier episodes dealing with her people, where they shunned her because she didn’t share their telepathic abilities. She could have turned bitter and cruel. Instead, she accepted it with quiet dignity.
Just like she did in this episode.
Rudy, Sylphie, and their party were getting ready to transport to the flying castle with Shizuka. Almanfi appeared and prepared to teleport them, and Shizuka asked if she’d brought too many people. The familiar said no, but Roxy couldn’t go with them.
“King Perugiuis is magnanimous, but he detests demonkind,” Almanfi said (01:44).
I think it’s a sign of Rudy’s maturity that he didn’t let his anger control his reaction. Also, Roxy’s own attitude seemed to sooth him. He offered to bring her back some kind of souvenir.
“A hug when you get back is enough for me,” she said (01:55).
If either of them weren’t main characters, I’d be afraid that was a death flag! As it was, I thought it was a poignant connection to Roxy’s past and her commitment to live her best life in spite of things like this.

Setup: A Rich History
It’s going to take a while to digest everything this episode dropped on us. That said, a few things stood out. We got more information about Elinalise’s situation. Like Zenith, Elinalise had been trapped in a labyrinth (specifically, the Bau Labyrinth) and had to be rescued. She never did regain her memory, though her curse (debilitating hypersexuality) manifested itself.
The good news? An elf village had adopted her, and she had been able to marry a good elf who provided for her. The bad news? He got murdered selling the mana stones Elinalise’s body produced, and her curse drove her into the arms of every man in the village. Eventually, they drove her out.

Can you imagine how she felt? Talk about walking a rough road! Her story’s one of endurance and perseverance. I’m glad to see she’s with someone like Cliff who really cares for her. Did you see him take her hand while Perugius questioned her (09:05)?
That (around 18:30) probably told the entire pre-history of this world. I couldn’t discern much for certain, though there were a lot of hints (was that Hitogami on the far left around 18:50)? Seeing Zanoba get so obviously excited about the mural (and the marionette mentioned earlier) was a treat. I love seeing people showing their passion.
Delivery: Rudy’s Past Keeps Trying to Catch Up to Him
There were tons of little moments in this episode. The one that struck me as my favorite happened relatively early on. Sylvaril led the party through an arch that caused Rudy and Sylphie to glow. She paused and asked (04:07), “Does the name ‘Man-God’ mean anything to you?”
Talk about a trigger event! Rudy had to completely freak out on the inside. The last time someone asked him something like that, Orsted almost killed him, Eris, and Ruijerd (back in episode 21). Heck it was so bad that when he first caught a glimpse of Shizuka in school, he ran screaming from the room.

But Rudy’s more mature now. More in control of himself. He managed to stand there, as still as tone, when Sylvaril asked her question. It was a terrible moment! I had no idea how he would reply. And if he replied in the affirmative, I had no idea how Sylvaril would react!
Fortunately, Sylphie proved once again why she’s the best of wives.
“No,” she said calmly (04:15). “Not a thing.”
I seriously have no idea how Perugius would react if they knew Rudy was “favored” by Hitogami. But I love a show that so artfully built its world that the very question makes me anxious. It’s for shows like this, with moments like this, that I started this blog. I really hope you enjoyed that moment, and this entire episode, as much as I did.
