Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls Episode 9 Review – Quick Summary

In Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls Episode 9, “Everyday Life with a Threatening Letter,” Miia, Centorea, and the rest are united against a common threat: Agent Smith! Mero confirmed that Agent-Smith had asked Darling-kun on a date to a maid cafe. But she couldn’t follow any farther because she ran into difficulties. Papi trailed them into an arcade, but she ran into difficulties. Miia and Centorea tried to spy on them in the park, but they ran into difficulties, too. It took Rachnera’s expert skills to find out the shocking truth. Will life in Darling-kun’s home ever be the same?

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Favorite Quote from Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls Episode 9

Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls Episode 9: Rachnera has a greater tolerance for danger than the rest of them

It’s not something I’d be happy about, but my perspective differs from Rachnera’s. Capture from the Blu Ray.

Rachnera has an appetite for excitement. By “excitement,” I mean she seems to like danger. Remember in the previous episode when Rachnera incapacitated the low-lifes who intended to assault Centorea? Rachnera behaved as if that was just another evening on the town. She got into it, but it didn’t seem like it excited her.

In my favorite quote from this episode, she actually seemed excited about something. Happy, too. And it wasn’t something I would think one should be happy about.

Agent Smith had just announced to all of them that the reason for all of the secrecy had been because Darling-kun had received a letter. The letter said that if he married any of the monster girls, there would be death.

“Ah!”, said Rachnera near the back of the group (10:51). She had a big grin on her face. “A threatening letter!”

Seriously, that’s about as happy as I’ve seen her! Or at least it ranks as a tie.

Best in Show Moment for Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls Episode 9

Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls Episode 9: Miia and Darling-kun are great together

Darling-kun gets points for a spontaneously kind – though ultimately futile – gesture. Capture from the Blu Ray.

Setup: Miia, Monster Girl of Monster Girls

You might reasonably ask why, in a series that includes Rachnera, I’ve chosen Miia as my favorite character. That’s a good question, and I think I have a good answer! At least, the answer seems good to me. Since it has to do with my favorite moment in this episode, I’m going to give you a chance to weigh in on whether I’m crazy or not.

But please, base your opinions only on the evidence presented in this post! Otherwise I don’t stand a chance.

There were several scenes that reinforced my opinion of Miia. Even though her paranoia doubtless made her feel otherwise, she told Rachnera that she did not think Darling-kun was cheating with Agent Smith and that there must be another explanation (10:02). Trust is good!

Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls Episode 9: Miia really wanted to express her opinion to Rachnera

Rachnera didn’t believe Darling-kun was innocent, so Miia tried to gently persuade her. Capture from the Blu Ray.

There there was the shot of Miia with Darling-kun in the aquarium’s gift shop. She looked like she was having so much fun it was infectious!

In addition to that, even when Draco had “rescued” her from Darling-kun’s inattention but before Draco got all grabby, Miia still defended Darling-kun. Draco said that Darling-kun should have paid all of his attention to Miia, not Mero. “Darling is so sweet, he just takes care of Mero, too,” she said (17:17).

Delivery: Easy Spontaneity is the Key

Miia’s given to fits of jealousy. But she fights that part of her nature, and that’s part of why I likeher. In the final analysis, though, she’s my favorite character because she has such good chemistry with Darling-kun. Their relationship seems more spontaneous and affectionate than what he has with any of the other Monster Girls. My favorite moment is a perfect example of that.

Darling-kun had just escorted Miia out of the lake. He had just saved her from Draco’s clutches (literally). Both had been drenched to the skin.

Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls Episode 9: Mero did her part

Mero did her part to make sure Darling-kun could ram Draco’s boat. I’m still not sure how he got that kind of speed out of the little paddle boat – without paddling! Capture from the Blu Ray.

Miia stood on the shore, shivering. Without even thinking about it, Darling-kun took his his shift and draped it over her shoulders. There was a wet slopping sound as the wet material hit her shoulders (19:38).

For an instant, they just looked at each other, both realizing the complete futility of his gesture. Then they broke out laughing.

That kind of shared, natural intimacy sets Miia apart from the other Monster Girls. At least, it does in my book. Does that make me crazy?

What did you think of Papi’s earnest attempt to phone in the results of her mission? What were your favorite moments in this episode? Feel free to share in the comments!

  1. “But please, base your opinions only on the evidence presented in this post! Otherwise I don’t stand a chance.”

Of course you don’t stand a chance – Best Girl barely makes an appearance in this episode. 🙂 🙂

    1. I figured you’d have something to say about that! 🙂

In my defense, I did award Rachnera with my favorite quote of the episode. She was just so happy about the death threat! She’s scary-cool!

Please let me know what you think!
