Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun Episode 10 – Quick Summary
In Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun Episode 10, “What’s Strengthened is Our Bond and Our Reins,” Hirotaka Wakamatsu went to Umetarou Nozaki with a problem: Yuzuki Seo had asked him to see a movie with her. What should he do? Since Umetarou wanted ideas for a plot, he said Hirotaka should go. So he did. And in a passive/aggressive attempt to make Yuzuki feel awkward, he dressed up. How did their date go? What did they do? Most importantly, did Umetarou get material for his next manga?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

I can’t blame Masayuki for being enthusiastic! Capture from the Blu Ray.
Hirotaka felt very excited when Masayuki Hori offered to go into the all-girl’s glee club and find out the true identity of the Lorelei of the Glee Club. Unfortunately, Hirotaka ended up very disappointed, because Masayuki had completely forgotten why he’d gone into that room.
He wasn’t the only one displeased. So was Yuu_Kashima, who Chiyo Sakura and Umetarou found moping in the hallway. Chiyo asked why she seemed down, and she answered. It all went back to when Masayuki went into the Glee Club. He got all excited about their music and wanted to put on a musical stage play.
Yuu said he had asked her (10:11), “You can sing, dance, walk tightropes, backflip and jump through flaming hoops, right?!”
Turns out she can’t sing. All the rest she could handle. But singing? Not happening.
That’s the kind of humor that makes me love this show.

You know things are bad when the frame switches to scratched black and white. Capture from the Blu Ray.
How bad was Yuu’s singing? I’m glad you asked, because the moment we found out was my favorite moment of the episode.

Hearing Yuu’s confession that she couldn’t sing, Chiyo had (what seemed to her like) a great idea: ask Yuzuki for help! She was a vocal musical prodigy, after all. So, the three of them headed for the Glee Club and asked for help.
Yuzuki reasonably asked to hear Yuu sing. Yuu stood, her face a mask of concentration. Yuzuki sat, watching intently. To Yuu’s left, Umetarou and Chiyo stood, hardly able to bear their anticipation. Yuu was good after everything. Even if she thought herself tone deaf, how bad could she really be?
Yuu placed her right hand on her chest. Eyes closed, she took in a deep breath. And she tried to sing.
For a moment, Umetarou and Chiyo held onto hope that Yuu’s voice wasn’t bad. Then they actually heard her voice. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Her voice was so bad it destroyed the color in the frame.
Her voice was so bad it drove Umetarou to his knees and Chiyo to try to claw through the wall. It was so bad that Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95, B. 178 “From the New World”: IV. Allegro con fuoco began to play.
The symphony playing is what elevated the humor to sublime.
Pulling her earplugs out, Yuziki said, “That was seriously awful.”
That’s my kind of humor. My humor is usually the kind of stuff that makes twelve year old boys laugh. But this show actually gives me a little hope that my sense of humor might not have stopped developing in sixth grade!
What did you think of Hirotaka’s date with Yuzuki? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

Seo/Wakamatsu’s contrast is somehow a fun part of this episode. The fun part is that these kind of dates do exist!
What amazes me is how comfortable Hirotaka and Yuzuki look together! Yuzuki might see it in her own way; I don’t think Hirotaka has a clue! Either that or he hides it really well.
Yeah, it’s always a bad sign when the animation switches to horror movie scratchy black and white!
I laughed a lot at that scene! And poor Chiyo clawing at the walls to escape! Too funny.
