But suddenly, Eris and Ruijerd freeze in their tracks. Rudy, concerned, peered ahead, at first seeing nothing. Then, the figure of a tall man and a shorter woman come into focus. Who are they? Why have they terrified even Ruijerd, a Superd? And what, if anything, should Rudy do about it?

While visiting the local adventurers’ guild, she heard a commotion. A young mage, Cliff Grimoire, had tried to use his Arrogance Skill to convince some older adventurers to let him in their party. The adventurers were not pleased, and Eris decided to step in to safe the young mage’s life. It worked. The adventurers walked away. But Cliff felt humiliated, so he called Eris “ugly.” Will Cliff live to see another day? And if he does, what influence will his shadowy past have on Eris and Ruijerd?
