My Dress-Up Darling Episode 10 Review – Quick Summary
In My Dress-Up Darling Episode 10, “We’ve All Got Struggles,” Marin Kitagawa, Sajuna Inui, and Shinju Inui conducted their photoshoot in the abandoned hospital. It seemed to go well until Marin and Sajuna tried to reenact a scene from the anime that inspired their characters. Can Sajuna handle power of Marin’s gaze? Later, Marin takes Wakana Gojou shopping. Can she find anything he’ll agree to wear? And what is the shocking confession he springs on her?

Favorite Quote from My Dress-Up Darling Episode 10
I have to admire the strength of Marin’s convictions! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I debated about choosing this quote. It’s a little daring, after all, and I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable. But then I figured, hey, it’s My Dress-Up Darling. If anyone finds a quote like this offensive, they’re probably not watching the show, anyway. So, here goes!
Marin was watching a show with a character named Veronica. She had shark teeth, she had white hair, and she wore, well, not much. She had a band around her chest and some shorts, and that was it. Okay, less shorts and a tiny skirt-like thing. Marin had asked Wakana to make that outfit for her, and he had just finished it.
Marin had loved Veronica’s character model. She had gone on and on about how good Veronica looked. She even loved the character’s “disgusted stare.”
But her favorite part?
“And that underboob!” Marin gushed (11:05). “Nothing beats her underboob! Seeing such plump, healthy underboob makes you healthier, too.”
Wakana didn’t seem to know what Marin meant. But I do! And I think she’s on to something!

When Marin focuses, her acting skills are phenomenal. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: When Marin’s On, She’ On
In last week’s episode, we got a rare look at Marrin feeling insecure. One of the themes of that episode, and in this episode, too, is how we all feel insecure sometimes. It’s just part of being human. As endearing as it is to draw closer to these characters through their moments of weakness, there’s also a lot to be said for getting to know them through their strengths. We got a glimpse of one of Marin’s strengths early in this episode.
No, I’m not talking about the scene where the camera panned up Marin’s bare back. That is undoubtedly a strength, to be sure, but it’s not the one I’ve chosen to celebrate this week. But I did want it to be known that the scene did make its point: Marin is a lovely young woman.
With or without costume.
And did you notice how totally confident she was with just a door between her and Wakana? But I meant what I said. I’m not going to talk about that scene. Anymore. Because, well, I know I just talked about it. Look, I’m a back story kind of guy, okay? And plot.
Seriously. I am not going to talk about this scene. Not another word! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Where was I? Oh.
The scene that made my breath catch in my throat was early on. Shinju had just finished Sajuna’s individual shots. Shinju was in her element. She was taking pictures of the sister she loved dearly. And even better, she herself was in the cosplay that Wakana helped her fashion, and she had a new, supportive friend in Marin. So she was all excited to have Sajuna and Marin reenact the scene where Black Lobelia drew Black Lily close. You know, to gaze into her eyes to see if Lily had really turned to the dark side.
Delivery: And When it Comes to Acting, Marin is On
Keep in mind that Sajuna had no experience with team photoshoots. In fact, she expressed some discomfort with having Marin and Wakana there. But seeing how important it was to her sister, Sajuna agreed. She got herself in position.
I forget from time to time that Marin is a model. Not just a model; she’s a good model. She can put herself into a role and project that role, hard. And that’s just what she did to prepare for this shot. She grasped Sajuna’s chin between her left thumb and forefinger, looked away for a moment, and when she turned her gaze onto Sajuna, it was not as Marin. It was as freaking Black Lobelia.
The electricity of looking into Black Lobelia’s eye’s practically turned Sajuna into Satoru Gojou. Eyes-wise, anyway! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
The effect was so intensely powerful that Sajuna couldn’t even breath. She could only look helplessly into the face that had so absolutely assumed the role of Black Lobelia. Sajuna, an experienced cosplayer, was enthralled (01:01).
Marin sometimes doubts herself. Her vocabulary left her feeling inferior to Sajuna. But in this moment, we got to see Marin’s talent and strength. And it left Sajuna speechless.
Of course, Marin was having so much fun that she couldn’t hold the expression for more than a couple of seconds. But it was a really cool couple of seconds!
