My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 14 – Quick Summary
In My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 14, “You Can Equip Boobs,” Nowa rocked Wakana’s world by asking if he was dating Marin. In the middle of karaoke. At the top of her lungs. Wakana’s immediate denial stung Marin to the point she wondered if he actually hated her. Does this mean their relationship is on the rocks? Can they reconcile? And will Nowa ever get her answer?

Favorite Quote from My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 14
I love seeing how their relationship has evolved. This was such a moment of trust! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I’ve chosen a quote that helps us understand Marin a little better. This quote happened after she caught a cold wearing a bunny girl outfit. While I admire her dedication to her hobby, her hairdresser was right: she has to take care of herself.
It also shows just how comfortable she is with Wakana. She doesn’t open up to just anyone. She’s very outgoing, sure, but she’s not going to show excessive emotion to just anyone. That’s just not done.
After Marin didn’t answer his text asking if she was okay, he faked being sick himself and went to check on her. He knew she lived alone, and he knew about her cooking skills. It was a good thing he went to check, too. She practically fainted into his arms. And I don’t think she was faking.
He prepared the obligatory white porridge to help her regain her strength. She was so weak that he had to feed it to her. He even blew on it so it wouldn’t be too hot. After feeding her several bites, he mentioned that he added ginger to help her warm up.
She just started bawling.
Not sniffling. Not gentle tears. She burst out bawling. Did you notice? He didn’t freak out.
“Dis sucks,” she said, still crying (10:40). “I couldn’t moob. I was outta fwood. I fwought I was gonna die!”
She trusted him so much she could just let it all out. This was one of those “some faith in humanity restored” sort of scenes!

Setup: A Trip Down Memory Lane
I mean, seriously, how do I pick a single favorite moment out of this episode? That whole scene, while he cooked for her and nursed her back to health? That’s good stuff. It’s not my favorite moment – I’ll get to that in a moment – but I wanted to mention something about this, because I think there’s a misunderstanding that’s way, way too common.
The short version of what I’m going to say is: Aragorn.
The longer version starts with me asking if you remember Aragorn, the son of Arathorn II, the man who restored the kingship in Gondor. The old-wives (Tolkien’s words, not mine!) tales spoke of the one who would be king as having the hands of a healer. Sure, the guy would have to swing a mean sword. But anyone could do that. Using the same hands to heal or deal death is the mark of a capable man.
This is among the things a real man should be able to do without working up a sweat. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I remember being in college back in the early 1980s. I took a class from a Dominican Sister who gave out free relationship advice. None of the “Dear Abby” stuff. This Sister concentrated on practical advice.
One thing she said has stuck with me ever since. She said that when you’re searching for a significant other, before making the relationship permanent, make sure you see how that person treats you when you’re sick. You need to know if they’ll still support you when you’re in that condition. And, man-oh-man, was she right.
Detour: Real Strength
The misunderstanding is that men can’t be nurturing. That position is flat-out stupid. I mean, I don’t have the vocabulary to say just how stupid. In my world, a real man should be able to orchestrate a multi-fleet action against a strategic enemy or treat the wounded. A real man should be able to deflect a pack of wolves or change a baby’s diaper. A real man should be able to defend his significant other from an attack, or nurse her back to health.
To me, that’s just obvious. How else would a man be? Would a real man say, “Oh, I’m not going to nurture my significant other back to health because that’s not a man’s work?”
Sounds kinda wimpy to me.
She’s smiling because he nursed her back to health. What man would want to miss a smile like that? I mean, come on! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Anyway, I think Wakana visiting Marin was not only exactly what she needed. It was a statement of masculinity. Especially in light of my favorite moment.
Marin felt terrible because Wakana had so forcibly denied they were dating. She felt like he might actually hate her. That’s almost incomprehensible, but only because we know what he’s thinking, too. It’s easy to forget, but she’s still a young ‘un. It’s so, so easy to have a crisis of confidence at that age (at any age, actually, but let’s keep this at arms length, shall we?).
He, too, worried about what happened. He felt it would be “presumptuous” to date someone like Marin. In other words, he saw her as way out of his league. Talk about relatable! I freaking suffered flashbacks during this scene! But both of their perspectives set up my favorite moment perfectly.
Delivery: How Does Wakana Really Feel
Two guys showed up while Wakana cleaned himself up. When he emerged from the restroom, he saw two guys talking intensely to Marin. Recalling that one of Marin’s friends had said she was glad Wakana was there so they didn’t have to spend their time fending off other guys hitting on Marin, Wakana looked on. He wasn’t certain what to do. He only knew Marin didn’t look happy.
Then one of the guys reached for Marin.
I think Wakana must have teleported, he got there so fast. One instant, he wasn’t there. The next he had grabbed the guy by the wrist (02:22).
A smile like this is worth a lot. As in, “Sure, to see you smile like that, I’ll alter that planet’s orbit for you!” Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
How does Wakana really feel about Marin? I think that moment told us everything we needed to know. Moments like this are among my favorites of favorites, because they reveal the character’s motivations on levels they themselves are sometimes not aware of. That’s one of the points of fiction, isn’t it? To help us get to know these characters, and through them, ourselves? This moment nailed that idea.
