My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 15 – Quick Summary
In My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 15, “I Wuuuuv Slice-of-Life Scenes!,” Wakana learns that yes, indeed, one can equip boobs. He learns this because Chitose Amano (cosplay name Himeno Amane) helped him try on a set in an upscale cosplay store. Wakana may never be the same. But Chitose revealed something to Wakana and Marin – something he didn’t tell just anyone. What is this secret? How will Marin and Wakana react? And just what was Wakana’s opinion of finding himself with boobs?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.
Favorite Quote from My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 15
The 2-D masks were a nice touch. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Everyone once in a while, a show like this comes along where it’s dang near impossible to pick a single favorite quote. I mean, in 99% of the shows out there, “Whoa, Gojo-kun, your boobs are huge!” (02:31) would be a shoe-in for my favorite quote. It’s hilarious and it’s a perfect example of this show’s spirit.
But it lost out to something Wakana said near the end of the episode. Marin threw a birthday party for her favorite fictional character, Shizuku Kuroe from Saint ♡ Slippery’s Academy for Girls. For some reason, I feel like I should pause for a moment every time I saw that academy’s name.
Anyway, Marin threw a birthday party for the character, complete with a very detailed cake and lively interaction with a body pillow. Wakana, wearing a 2-D mask of Shizuku, sat cross-legged on the floor, taking in the scene.
As open-minded as he is, as much as he whole-heartedly supports Marin, even Wakana had to say to himself (21:18), “What in the world am I witnessing?”
And even then, he embraced who Marin was, and supported her, and gave us yet another reason to root for them as a couple.
Favorite Moment from My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 15
Marin reacted as any compassionate human should. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Yes, This is One of Those Posts
I’m going to preface this with a reminder that I hold a dual Bachelors degree in English and Theology. My theological concentrations were in moral systematic theology, Christology, and eschatology (study of the end times).
Seeing that, you might make some assumptions about how I would react to a show like this. I could not for a second blame you. But I’m someone who thinks things started to go downhill for Christianity with Constantine the Great (who I’d argue wasn’t so great). The reason is dead simple.
Using religion for political power only has one ending. It’s dark. It’s bloody. And it’s about as far away from the aims of early Christianity as you can get.
Setup: Theological Truth in a Rom-Com
Why am I talking about this in a review of a rom-com? That’s easy. No work of fiction I’ve encountered has done such a compelling job of presenting sympathetic characters who hold views of life that diverge from some cultural norms.
More than that, it shows the suffering these people have to endure at the hands of cold, callous individuals. Even better, it shows the impact of people who not only do not judge, but embrace that enhancement to the norm.
As I watched Marin cry after she listened to Chitose’s story, I’ll be honest with you. I was furious. I had an entire post – no, I had a novel-length work – outlined in my head. Chitose’s story blended with Chitose’s story until they became one in the same. I wanted to vent my rage in the only way I know how that doesn’t result in injuries, and that’s with words.
Wakana gets it. He gets it just as much as Marin does. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
But then I considered Marin’s response. Hers was a human and compassionate and praiseworthy way to react. What human, presented with Chitose’s story, could respond differently? What kind of monster does it take to berate or belittle or even kill someone because of an expression that is not within a cultural norm?
I mean, what the hell, man?
Does no one understand history at all? I shave my face. I don’t like having a beard. But there are cultures who would put a bullet in my head for that. There are cultures who would stone a woman to death – they hurl rocks at her until she’s dead – if she doesn’t dress in a certain way.
See how easy it would be for me to give into the urge to rant? I’m going to stop now and talk about my favorite moment. Well, talk more about it, because I’ve already mentioned it.
Delivery: Marin Demonstrates Simple Compassion
Chitose spoke of a time when, after entering college, he brought his girlfriend home to his apartment. She found his cosplay costumes – dresses and the like – and freaked out. When he finally convinced her he wasn’t seeing another woman and that these were his cosplay costumes, she said (13:03), “What the hell are you thinking? You need to stop that right now.”
She told him he had to throw it all away. Remind you of anyone? Say, a major political cult in the US right now?
I’ve classified Marin’s response as “Some Faith in Humanity Restored.” When Chitose had finished, he found Marin ugly crying. He freaked out; he felt guilty because he felt like he had made her cry. Her response is my favorite moment in this episode.
Marin’s reaction surprised Chitose, in a good way. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
“I mean… I mean…” she began (13:46). “If she saw all those outfits you had… She could tell how important they were to you and how they made you feel. How could she tell you to throw them away so easily? … I absolutely can’t let that slide.”
Marin’s is the proper, human, divine response to the situation.
Let me put that a different way.
It takes courage to embrace “love one another” instead of deciding to “nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.” I get that not everyone has that kind of courage. But I think if we don’t strive for that, we’re pretty much screwed.
The TL/DR version: be like Marin. Or Wakana. He gets it, too.
What did you think of Marin’s photoshoot? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

I hate to give advice, because that’s a pretty heavy responsibility! But I think you’d like this series. Its heart is in the right place, and the characters are the kind of people you’d want in your life.
If you decide to watch it, I really hope you enjoy it!
It’s posts like this that make me want to pick up a show I never thought I would have an interest in, even if it’s onto season 2, and start from the beginning. Sprinkling in historical themes and facts, and personal credentials to boot (you’re only the second person I’ve known who holds a double bachelor’s degree), to drive home the point was fantastic, too. That helps the overall message delivery if I dare say.
Now I might have to actually go and start this series.
