My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 24 – Quick Summary

In My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 24, “Dear My Dress-Up Darling,” it’s almost time for the “Coffin” cosplay. They have their costumes. Their makeup is done. But there’s just one problem: one of the cosplayers didn’t finish the game, so she has no idea what’s coming. And she absolutely positives hates blood. Who is this unfortunate soul? How will se react to the quantity of fake blood that’s about to be unleashed? And will we ever find out why Akira seems to hate Marin so much?

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Favorite Quote from My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 24

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 24: Marin was trying to be helpful in her own special way

I think the blood splatter and slightly crazier than usual eyes added to the effect! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

The word “subtle” can only be applied to Marin if it’s preceded by “not.” I mean that in the warmest possible way! It works for her because, at least so far, her heart has always been in the right place.

A few episodes back, she let everyone (except Akira!) know that Akira’s reluctance to even look at Marin had not gone unnoticed. It didn’t insult Marin. She didn’t know why Akira seemed to hate her, but Marin’s so casually confident that the situation didn’t upset her.

Marin also didn’t hold it against her in any way. This is an important insight into Marin’s character. For most of us, if we think someone hates us, we tend to think less of the person. If not that, we’d at least be less inclined to be charitable, or overtly kind. Even if we wouldn’t be rude, we might be cool or reserved.

Not Marin. When Shinju said she wanted a picture of Akira and Marin together (I think it was Shinju; their cosplay was so good I had to listen carefully to their voices), Akira froze. We still didn’t know why. Marin, knowing the situation, decided to act – in a less than subtle attempt to spare Akira’s feelings.

“Um, Akira-san doesn’t like me,” Marin called after Shinju (13:07). “No, more like she can’s deal with me? So…”

Her heart was in the right place!

Favorite Moment from My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 24

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 24: Akira finally communicated her perspective to Wakana

Amane’s like, “yeah, whatever.” Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Setup: Akira’s Unbridled Adoration

I’m pretty sure i’ve never seen anyone fangirl as hard as Akira fangirled for Marin. Akira went from quite and reserved to completely losing control (in a good way). Major respect to Maki Kawase, Akira’s voice actor, for absolutely killing it.

“Oh, my god!” she screamed loudly enough to shake the very ground (16:23). “She’s so effin’ cute! She’s so cute!” That was in response to my favorite quote. It was the moment that the entire cast – and a good portion of the surrounding city – learned that no, Akira didn’t hate Marin.

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 24: Akira didn't hate Marin; not by a long shot

Nope. Not hate. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

I often joke about my favorite shows making it hard to pick a single favorite quote and moment. But this show made it particularly difficult. This episode in particular wrapped up so many emotional threads that I have a hard time choosing. Not only that, they are so interrelated that teasing them apart isn’t a breeze, either! Akira’s thread, for example, featured several little gems!

For my favorite moment, I’m going with a part of the Akira saga. I’ll also note that Sajuna’s story really resonated with me; and of course, so did the ending, even though I wanted Marin to confess. I just don’t think that Wakana is quite ready to hear it. Though I think, even if he doesn’t understand it himself, he’s already fallen for Marin.

As proof, please let me present my favorite moment.

In a flashback to episode 21 (I think!), Akira confided in Amane and Wakana that it wasn’t that she hated Marin. Far from it. “I’m a huge fan of the princess,” she said (13:38).

Delivery: Wakana’s So Close to Realizing

This confused both Amane and Wakana. That’s when Akira showed them a picture of cosplaying Marin from episode 10. Akira explained the photo blew her away. Still, Wakana didn’t get it. Even as she explained how Marin’s magazine pictures moved her, Wakana still didn’t get it.

When Akira went on to explain that Marin was just so cute, Wakana began to understand. In fact, he glowed with understanding.

“That picture… That studio, Unui-san’s shoot, and Kitagawa’s expression were so brilliant!” Wakana said (14:20).

Remember back in episode 18, when Wakana Marin’s beauty on stage so thoroughly captured his imagination? Wakana might not really understand it, but he sees Marin as beautiful, and full of life, and – maybe most importantly of all – as the one for whom he wants to make costumes and props. Dude wants to dedicate his creative energies to her happiness. If he were just a little more confident, he might actually begin to see Marin romantically.

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 24: Akira didn't like Wakana editing himself out

Akira wasn’t pleased Wakana basically edited himself out of the equation. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

A point not lost on Akira, who, when Wakana talked of Marin’s expression, snapped with uncharacteristic vehemence (14:27), “And so was the outfit you made, damn it! Don’t forget something that important!”

Good advice, especially coming from someone who knows was a lack of confidence can do to a person.

  1. I am 100% going to miss this one. I agree with you. Wakana isn’t quite there yet. My heart yearned for a confession, but he’s just not ready to hear all of that. The confession has to come from him, in my opinion. The whole episode was epic. 10/10 will watch again.

    1. If the confession comes from Wakana, then maybe Marin can help him get used the idea it’s even possible. He still can’t even imagine she’d be interested in him, though I think he’s getting closer!

    1. I think hanging around Marin has toughened him up. Or at least gotten him used to games outside of his experience!

I’ll be seriously bummed if we don’t get a third season. I’m sorely tempted to get the manga!

Please let me know what you think!
