Other Posts to Crow About – 2018 Week 18 Edition

Eighteenth week of 2018 edition!

This is a Crow’s eye view of the posts that caught my attention this week. Typically, they’ll be posts that celebrate some aspect of anime, like strong characters, intricate plots, or amazing worlds.

There are only two rules:

  • I have to find the site to read it. I publish a list of the sites I review every week, so please do look for your site! If you don’t see it, I’d love for you to mention your site in the comments.
  • Your post had to have been published during the last seven days (or so)

Remember, you can find a list of the sites I check every week here

There’re a lot of good posts in the anime space. I hope this post helps you find some of them!

I Drink and Watch Anime

Top 5 Grand Ladies of Shonen

Good lists are hard. Sorry if I’m repeating myself, but really, an interesting and engaging list in this age of click-bait headlines is an achievement. This post from I Drink and Watch Anime does something even more amazing — or concerning, depending on your perspective: It matched my tastes almost completely (no that’s not an insult to the writer)! The post presents the writer’s top 5 powerful women from shonen anime — and there are some excellent choices! The only entry I would have done differently is only because that choice was from an anime I haven’t seen — yet. The post convinced me to add that series to my backlog. What series? What character? You’ll need to read the article to find out!

KAWAIIPAPERPANDAS

TTT: Top Ten Tuesday-Ten Reasons Why I’m Loving Uma Musume: Pretty Derby…pssst It’s Mainly Because The Girls Are Super Pretty

What? Another list? Yes, another list! This one makes me reflect on my amazement that every week I watch Uma Musume: Pretty Derby, and I walk away happy. What is it about this show? This post from  KAWAIIPAPERPANDAS gives another answer to that question. Does the post focus on the characters? The comedy? The astonishingly widespread adorability of the characters? You’ll need to read the article to find out.

Mechanical Anime Reviews

I have trouble separating a creator’s misdeeds and their works

How do you react when a creator you respect does something terrible? For example, let’s say you enjoyed Rurouni Kenshin. Let’s say that it was meaningful to you during an important phase of your life. What do you do when you learn its creator, Nobuhiro Watsuki, was convicted of child pornography? That’s tough question, and it’s one that this article from Mechanical Anime Reviews explores in a very personal way.

Miandro’s Side

Interviews with Monster Girls: a love letter to teachers

I’ve read a lot of interesting posts about Interviews with Monster Girls, but I haven’t seen the perspective that this post from Miandro’s Side presents. Obviously, the teachers in this series are important characters. But there are aspects of this series that set it apart from others, even those who present teachers in a positive light. I think this article captures an important theme that’s been overlooked.

  1. Wow – thank you so much for including me. I feel like I should update that ist already – I got so many great comments

    1. Your posts usually get a lot of great comments! If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion about the list: don’t update the one you’ve published, write a sequel! I’d love to read more lists like that!

Please let me know what you think!
