Other Posts to Crow About – 2018 Week 40 Edition

Fortieth week of 2018 edition!

This is a Crow’s eye view of the posts that caught my attention this week. Typically, they’ll be posts that celebrate some aspect of anime, like strong characters, intricate plots, or amazing worlds.

There are only two rules:

  1. I have to find the site to read it. I publish a list of the sites I review every week, so please do look for your site! If you don’t see it, I’d love for you to mention your site in the comments.
  2. Your post had to have been published during the last seven days (or so)

Remember, you can find a list of the sites I check every week here.

There’re a lot of good posts in the anime space. I hope this article helps you find some of them!

Fantastic Memes

Revisiting Re:ZERO: Some Observations in Retrospect

I don’t think it’s any secret that I loved Re:Zero. I mean, I just wrote an article extolling the virtues of the Rem character! What I find endlessly fascinating is that while a lot of people loved the series, the series seemed to touch different people in different ways. This post from Fantastic Memes, for example, has some great insights into what the series so appealing — and there are some points you might not expect!

I Drink and Watch Anime

Only the Audience Remains

The sheet breadth of conversations that takes place in the ani-blog sphere never ceases to amaze me. It’s not unusual to find posts covering all aspects of the creative process, from idea to finished product, from the concrete to the philosophical, on a week to week basis! And truth be told, there’s one site that is likely to as not have examples of all of them: I Drink and Watch Anime! This week (more precisely, this Saturday), the site published a discussion on the nature of creator versus audience. Who really owns a work of art – the artist or the community? I think you’ll like the answer!

JEREM’S ANIME SANCTUARY

The Real Central Theme of Sword Art Online

It no secret that a) Sword Art Online (SAO) provokes all sorts of feelings — positive and negative! It’s also no secret that I thoroughly enjoyed the series. That’s why I’m on the lookout for interesting and unique perspectives on the show and its sequels. This post from JEREM’S ANIME SANCTUARY is just such a post! If you think you know the core theme from SAO, you might be in for a surprise.

Leap 250’s Blog

Comparisons as an Avenue for Elitism and Anime You “Must Watch” First

This site celebrates anime. There are some traits and tendencies that interfere with that celebration. Any form of elitism, for example, tends to make it hard for fans — especially newer fans — to enjoy the shows they want to. This post from Leap250’s Blog attacks this idea head on. Not only is the post a delightful read — the illustrations are great, too!

Zombieland Saga Ep. 1 – Snow Annihilation

Have you seen the first episode of Zombieland Saga yet? If you haven’t, then, as this post from Otaku Essays and Analyses says, “I literally can’t talk about this episode without spoiling the entire premise, so be warned.” And you know what? The post is right! I can’t say much even about this post without giving anything away! So if you haven’t watched the episode, go watch it! Then read this article to see if you agree — I know I did!
