Other Posts to Crow About – 2019 Week 02 Edition

Second week of 2019 edition!

This is a Crow's eye view of the posts that caught my attention this week. Typically, they'll be posts that celebrate some aspect of anime, like strong characters, moments of beauty, or amazing worlds.

There are only two rules:

  1. I have to find the site to read it. I publish a list of the sites I review every week, so please do look for your site! If you don't see it, I'd love for you to mention your site in the comments so I can add it to the list!
  2. Your post had to have been published during the last seven days (or so)

Remember, you can find a list of the sites I check every week here

There're a lot of good posts in the anime blogsphere. I hope this article helps you find some of them!

CHARACTER ANALYSIS: HARUHI SUZUMIYA

Have you watched The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya? I've finished the first season and am working my way through the second, and I'd get farther if new interesting series wouldn't keep monopolizing my time! Be that as it may, you might deduce from the title that Haruhi Suzumiya plays a prominent role, and you'd be right. There's a reason the show's so popular, and it has a lot to do with Haruhi's character. This post from Confessions of an Overage Otaku present a perspective that's not only technically rich, but is a blast to read! It makes me want to redouble my efforts to finish the series!

Hue Hue Anime Reviews

Made in Abyss: Season One

You know one of the ways that I can tell a series had a lasting impact on me? When just reading a review can trigger some of the emotions I felt while watching it. Take Made in Abyss, for example. The show ended in September 2017, yet even now, mere mention of the spine incident or Mitty can make me pause. This post from Hue Hue Reviews understands that. It presents a compelling retrospective on the series and its effects on viewers. If you watched the series, please read this article to see it matches your experience. If not, consider reading this article to get an idea of what you missed!

NC#4 – COMING OF AGE ANIME YOU NEED TO WATCH RIGHT NOW

The holidays seem to make a lot of bloggers introspective, and the result is a plethora of really interesting posts! Take this one from #moe404., for example. The writer reflects on "coming of age" anime series during the holidays. The list of series alone caught my attention, but what really sold me on this article was the depth of analysis! The list includes several series I know backwards and forwards, and yet the post managed to give me a greater appreciation for them! And the one series I hadn't seen yet? Yeah, it's on my backlog now because of this write-up!

Charlotte Episode 13

Sometimes, I like stuff that other people don't like. Take the series Charlotte. I loved that series despite the reactions from other fans. It was one of the few series whose character I enjoyed so much that when one of them died, I practically screamed at the show do to a deus ex machina thing and bring her back. Fortunately, the writers were smarter than me, and they had a much better solution, but the point is that I'm not claiming that my taste is superior! Just out in left field. So, I was really happy to find a post like this one from Naomi's Anime Blog. Not only did it not hate Charlotte; it actually had good things to say about the 13th episode, which I think is terribly underrated! According to my tastes, anyway! Give it a read and see if you agree.

Time, Innocence & Illusions in The Promised Neverland

Remember how I just talked about the emotional impact Made in Abyss left? I got a tiny feeling of deja vu when I watched the first episode of The Promised Neverland. As I watched Norman and Emma... okay, I can't talk about that for fear of spoiling the ending. Okay, when I watched Conny... wait, that'd be even worse. Look, just go watch the first episode, then read this post from Otaku, she wrote. It presents a unique take on how the first episode achieved what it did. Which I can't talk about. Because I don't want to spoil it.
