Other Posts to Crow About – 2019 Week 29 Edition

Welcome to the twenty-ninth week of 2019 edition!

This is a Crow’s eye view of the posts that caught my attention this week. I especially look for posts that celebrated amazing moments in anime.

Like to Read Blogs?

If you’re a reader, I hope that this helps you find interesting posts that you might otherwise have missed! There are hundreds of sites, and it’s not easy to read all of them all the time! I go through the list of the sites every week to find posts that celebrate the amazing moments that keep me coming back to anime.

Like to Write Blogs?

If you’re a blogger, I’ve love to know about your site so I can check it out every week! There are only two rules to get on the list:

  1. I have to find the site to read it. I publish a list of the sites I review every week, so please do look for your site! If you don’t see it, please mention your site in the comments so I can add it!
  2. Your post had to have been published during the last seven days (or so)

Remember, you can find a list of the sites I check every week here

Review Order

This week, I reviewed the sites in alphabetical order (A to Z).

I Watched an Anime

Review: K-On!

There are some studios whose very name conveys timeless quality. We’re fortunate to live in a time when we can celebrate one such studio, Kyoto Animation (KyoAni). Their work over the years has come to represent the nearly perfect fusion of character, plot, theme, and animation. This week, I came across a review by IWatchedAnAnime on I Watched An Anime that talked about just how K-On achieves what it does — and the examples are great. Also great? The illustrations. They’re simply fantastic. I can’t wait for you to see them and read the article!

In Asian Spaces

They Journeyed to the Sea

Attack on Titan this season blew me away. Its first season was a masterpiece of action, drama, and world-building. For the series to not only maintain, but accelerate its pace and energy in the third season is unprecedented, at least in my experience. I’ve highlighted articles on this series before in 2019 Week 24, 2019 Week 25, 2019 Week 26, and others. This week, I’d light to highlight a post by In Asian Spaces on the site In Asian Spaces. Most of the time, I love reading posts that follow the series as the episodes air. Those reactions are fresh and vigorous. At other times, I like to read posts whose authors have considered the episode’s presentation over time. This is one of the latter. Want to see how deep this series is? What to see the results of weeks of pondering? Then you know what to do!

Why Through The Fails, The Passion, The Like Is Still Strong?

Remember everything I said about Kyoto Animation (KyoAni) and K-On? That’s the starting point for this post from Kinoreviews on Lita Kino Anime Corner about the series Sound Euphonium! How do you react when you pour yourself into something — and fail? How do you recover if you try desperately to create something amazing, only to lose to someone who produced something more amazing? What is it that drives some of us to create, to strive, to pour our hearts and souls into creating, despite it clearly being easier to just eat lunch, or go home and watch television? If any of those questions resonated with you, you should really check out this post to get the perspective of a kindred soul.

Samurai Champloo: A Road Trip with some Unlikely Friends

Have you seen Samurai Champloo? If you have, skip the next couple of sentences… You haven’t? Is the rock you’re living under comfortable? I hope so, because it must be astoundingly heavy! Kidding aside, it’s a well-crafted series from Shinichirō Watanabe, who directed some minor hits like, oh I don’t know, Cowboy Bebop and Carole & Tuesday. You know. Minor hits. And yes, I say that tongue in cheek! In all seriousness, if you haven’t seen the show yet, you should, but you’re not alone for delaying! Scott from Mechanical Anime Reviews hadn’t seen it until recently, and he’s a pillar of the ani-blogging community! So now that he’s watched it, you owe it to yourself to see what he thought so you can watch it, too!

Shallow Dives in Anime

Goblin Slayer’s Goblin Slayer: The Hero’s Hero

For a moment, put aside the perceived controversy. What do you think of when you think of Goblin Slayer? You may know that I reviewed that series on this site, and if you’ve been a reader at least since then, you know I liked the series. So you might think “Crow, no disrespect, but aren’t you biased?” I’d say no, so please allow me to offer evidence on my behalf! Exhibit A: Take at look at this post by Dewbond from Shallow Dives in Anime. There’s something important to celebrate about this series. Questions like: Want to know why the title character Goblin Slayer works so well? Want to know the pivotal role the Sword Maiden plays? And that’s just the beginning. I think you’re really like the conclusion!
