Other Posts to Crow About – 2019 Week 34 Edition

Thirty-fourth week of 2019 edition!

This is a Crow’s eye view of the posts that caught my attention this week. I especially look for posts that celebrated amazing moments in anime or otherwise blew me away with their wit and charm.

Like to Read Blogs?

If you’re a reader, I hope that this guide helps you find interesting posts that you might otherwise have missed! There are hundreds of sites out there, and it’s not easy to read all of them all the time! I go through the list of the sites every week to find posts that I think will be interesting to you.

Like to Write Blogs?

If you’re a blogger, I’ve love to know about your site so I can check it out every week! There are only two rules to get on the list:

  1. I have to find the site to read it. I publish a list of the sites I review every week, so please do look for your site! If you don’t see it, mention your site in the comments so I can add it!
  2. Your post had to have been published during the last seven days (or so).

Remember, you can find a list of the sites I check every week here

Review Order

This week, I reviewed the sites in reverse alphabetical order (Z to A).

Shallow Dives in Anime

The Summer of Love: High School DxD Hero Episodes 7-12: The Rating Game Arc

You know that I hold High School DxD in high esteem. In fact, I’ll go so far as to say I think it’s everything a harem comedy should be — including some very dramatic elements. In Other Posts to Crow About 2019 Week 33 Edition, I highlighted a post by Dewbond on Shallow Dives in Anime that lauded the show’s main protagonist, Issei Hyoudou. I typically don’t feature the same blogger in two consecutive Other Posts to Crow About because I don’t want to appear to play favorites. But you know what? This post was such a perfect presentation of why High School DxD is the gold standard for harem anime that I had to share it. I think you’ll be impressed by just how dramatically powerful the show really is — despite it being a really funny comedy. Check out the article — I’m sure you’ll agree!

FIRE FORCE EP. 6 REVIEW: THE SPARK OF PROMISE

Shameless self-promotion moment: I hope you’re enjoying my reviews of Fire Force (you can find my review of episode 6 here). There’s a lot to like about the show, from its border-line bizarre sense of humor to its beautiful visuals. I’ll go so far as to say I really enjoy the characters. That’s what attracted my attention to Micahangello’s post on The Ramen Stand. The sixth episode was all about Hibana, and I really enjoyed how this post explored what the episode said about her motivations. I think it’s a sign of a quality anime series when its characters have enough substance to support articles like this. It’s always enjoyable to see the world through another set of eyes!

Lita Kino Anime Corner

Eccentric Ones Are Annoying Or Not?

You know how sometimes you meet a character and instantly know that’s someone who you’d fight beside? Not fight with — fight on behalf of. And notice I did say “see” a character. I said “meet,” because part of the the character’s experience is so alive, so real, that she might be someone at work or school. It doesn’t happen very often, but there’s a character in Sound Euphonium who’s like that for me, and her name is Asuka Tanaka. So it was with absolute delight that I read this post written by Lita from Lita Kino Anime Corner. The article is a celebration of the character of Asuka, and I have to say honestly that after reading it, I felt better about my day. That’s saying something!

Confessions of an Overage Otaku

CHARACTER ANALYSIS: YUKI NAGATO

Have you seen The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya? It’s an interesting series distinguished by an amazing premise and fascinating characters. If you ask people who their favorite character is, I’d expect many to say the title character, Haruhi Suzumiya, or the male lead, Itsuki Koizumi. Since the days when I first watched the series (and I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t quite finished it yet!), neither of them were my favorite. No, my favorite was Yuki Nagato. I could start listing the reasons why, but despite my tendency toward self promotion (sorry, but thanks for your patience!), I really am trying to direct your attention to some other amazing bloggers. In this case, Dave D’Alessio on the site Confessions of an Overage Otaku has a great post about Yuki Nagato and why she’s so amazing. I mean, the post references Ghost in the Shell in a meaningful and insightful way. How cool is that?

Log Horizon Season 2 – The Best is Yet To Come

In Other Posts to Crow About 2019 Week 32 Edition, I highlighted a post by Irina from I Drink and Watch Anime about the first season of Log Horizon. The reason was simple: I adored the series and Irina’s treatment of it! So, when I saw that Irina had written a followup post about Log Horizon 2 (this time on 100 Word Anime — looks like a single website can’t contain her talent!), I had to check it out. And I’m glad I did. From her mention of Rundel Haus’ observation about music to her theory about the reality underlying the series’ world, the article was jam-packed with reasons to love the show. And, of course, I want to rewatch both season 1 and 2 now!

    1. You’re welcome! The whole Summer of Love series was a lot of fun to read, but High School DxD Hero Episodes 7-12: The Rating Game Arc was a high mark!
