Other Posts to Crow About – 2019 Week 37 Edition

Thirty-seventh week of 2019 edition!

This is a Crow’s eye view of the posts that caught my attention this week. I especially look for posts that celebrate amazing moments in anime or otherwise blow me away with their wit and charm. Every week I check hundreds of sites, and I’m humbled by the quality and volume of work that the ani-blogging community creates! I hope this article helps you find some of those works!

What sites do I check every week? You can see the list of the sites here!

Review Order

This week, I reviewed the sites in alphabetical order (A to Z).

A Girl & Her Anime

What lurks in the dark?: Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin Review

Every season, there are at least one or two shows I adore that get largely ignored. I’ve gotten used to it, so it doesn’t bother me. Much. But when it comes to some shows, I can see the effort the writers, animators, and other staff put into it. I can see how their dramatic arcs succeed. I can see interesting characters interacting. Sure, it comes down to taste, but I still wonder why some shows don’t earn more viewers. That one reason I get excited when I find posts like this one by Amelia on A Girl & Her Anime about Midnight Occult Civil Servants. I liked the series enough to write a series of Best in Show reviews of it. What did I like about it? Well, I could tell you, or I could direct you to Amelia’s post. Let’s do the latter — it’s a lot of fun to read!

Ash Schwarzer

Do I Love Your Mom and her Two-Hit Multitarget Attacks?

The series Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? was one of those I wasn’t sure I could watch. Sure, I enjoy ecchi, and I really enjoy more mature female characters like Mamako Ousuki. Quite a lot, actually. But an ecchi series where a mom gets exposed in sight of her son? Ummm… Fortunately, there’s more to the series than that. A lot more, in fact! And if you don’t want to take my word for it (and I absolutely will not blame you!), check out this post from Ash Schwarzer from the site named Ash Schwarzer. I liked how this post zeroed in on the show’s underlying theme, which happens to raise it above other shows in its genre. Plus, the article didn’t speak ill of Wise, my favorite character in the show. That’s an essential part of any good review of this show!

Random Curiosity

Kanata no Astra – 11

Please tell me you’ve been watching Astra Lost in Space. Of all of the series I’m watching this season, I think this show represents the most emotionally powerful combination of plot, character, and theme. The show expertly planted plot seeds through the first 10 episodes, and in episode 11, it’s reaping time! What do I mean by such a tortured and cliched metaphor? To answer, please allow me to direct you to Pancakes’ post on Random Curiosity. The review shines a spotlight on the most powerful moments, and I can tell you this: if you’ve been following the series, the reveals in this episode were amazing. I also admired how this article pointed out that even in our world, there are parallels to some of this episode’s more disturbing aspects.

Sakura Sunrise

Don’t Forget About Princess Principal

I think this post gets the Best Advice of the Week award. Remember earlier when I talked about how I don’t understand why some series aren’t more popular? For Midnight Occult Civil Servants, I wondered why it wasn’t more popular even while I could see reasons it might not be. But there are some shows that don’t catch on, and it’s utterly mystifying to me. The best example might be Princess Principal. I mean, it has everything. Mystery. Intrigue. An amazing soundtrack. Dorthy. Well, all of the characters are great, but Dorthy’s my favorite. Anyway. I came across this wonderfully written post by TheSakuraSunrise on Sakura Sunrise that describes exactly why you should go watch Princess Principal. Yes, it mentions the soundtrack. Yes, it mentions the intrigue. And yes, it mentions Dorthy, but it talked about a lot more than that!

TigerAnime

Bokura wa Minna Kawai-sou – The Kawai Manor is Never Dull

This has been an interesting week. Two of the previous articles I’ve highlighted talked about series that weren’t as popular as I thought they should be. And lo and behold, I find another post that talks about a series that I can watch over and over, but wasn’t very popular. In this case, the show is The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior. Just thinking about the show makes me want to launch a tirade of why it was so enjoyable. Fortunately for you, instead of inundating you with my thoughts, I can direct you to this post by Tiger on TigerAnime. It captures a lot of what I thought made the series special.

    1. “You really have a knack for discovering blogs.”

Thanks! I’m not half as good as Irina from I Drink and Watch Anime or Karandi from 100 Word Anime; they consistently find new blogs before I do!

“Where do you find amazing blogs so consistently??”

I watch Twitter; I watch who likes my posts; I watch who comments on other blogs. One every month or so, I try to use Google to find new sites, but my Google Fu isn’t what it used to be!

      “I enjoyed the list!”

Thanks! I think I mentioned it earlier, but just in case, here’s the list of sites I try to check every week:

      Thanks for stopping by!

      1. Ah, yes, I’ve seen your grand list (and thanks for having my blog on there). I’ve discovered several great blogs from others’ comment sections, but not as often from Twitter. Maybe I need to follow more people.

Anyways, keep up the awesome work!

  1. Hey that’s me up there! Haha thanks so much for featuring me!! I’ll definitely strive to repay the favour someday.. Moments like these never fail to give me that little push I need to stay motivated 🙂

    1. You’re welcome!

“I’ll definitely strive to repay the favour someday.”

Oh, that’s easy! Just pay it forward! When you see a great post, do what you can to draw attention to it!

“Moments like these never fail to give me that little push I need to stay motivated”

That’s good to hear! Helps me feel good about posting this series! Thanks!
