Other Posts to Crow About – 2020 Week 12 Edition

Welcome to a Crow’s eye view of the posts that caught my attention this week. How does a post catch my eye? They have to celebrate amazing moments in anime or otherwise blow me away with their wit and charm. I check hundreds of sites, and I can tell you that the ani-blogging community’s quality and quantity of posts is amazing. I hope this helps you find some of them!

You can see the list of the sites I check here!

Review Order

This week, I reviewed the sites in reverse alphabetical order (Z to A).

Wretched and Divine

Anime Recommendations: Calming Shows

We’re living in unsettled times. I’ll bet many of you would appreciate something to calm your nerves! Oh, who am I kidding? I’d appreciate something to calm my nerves! Being an anime blog and all, I think it’s appropriate to turn to our favorite medium for solace. So when I went searching through the ani-blogging-sphere this week, I was on the lookout for good advice in this regard, and I’m happy to report my search was successful! Rose from Wretched and Divine has a great list of anime series that will calm your mind and soul. It’s exactly the kind of thing we need in these times! The article does its job so well even its comments have great suggestions!

A Richard Wood Text Adventure

My Hero Academia – Episodes 84 & 85: A Gentle Ass Whoopin

You’ve been reading the collaboration review Irina from I Drink and Watch Anime and I have been writing for My Hero Academia Season 4, right? Especially the one two weeks ago and the one last week? Just say yes — my ego is way more fragile than I’ll ever admit to. Anyway, the last couple of episodes, where Izuku Midoriya/Deku takes on Danjuurou Tobita/Gentle Criminal and Manami Aiba/La Brava, left me feeling as invigorated as I’d felt back when I watched the first couple of seasons. While I realized that, I didn’t spend much time thinking about it. I need to look for opportunities to do that, because that kind of inquiry can be fascinating — as this post by Richard Wood from A Richard Wood Text Adventure proves. What is it about these episodes that evokes the same feelings as earlier seasons? How can such a “fluffy” confrontation be so evocative? I know of one good way to find out!

ATMA & Funomena

Aesthetics of Iyashikei & Mundanity | The Rhythm of Ambience in Yuru Camp

I like themes. I like it when I find multiple posts talking about the same perspective, or series, or sensibility. But I never plan it. It just happens spontaneously. If this were a fictional story, I’d wonder what was going on — what was the narrative trying to foreshadow? In this case, given the world situation, it’s easy to understand how more than one blogger had healing and calming on their minds. We’ve seen one post recommending shows to help us be calm; how we have a post from NaChiKyoTsuki97 on the site ATMA & Funomena that not only recommends a specific show (Laid-Back Camp), it explains why it works so well. The writer in me likes to understand how a series achieves a calming or warming effect, so that maybe someday, someone will refer to my works as something that helped them through a tough time. That’d be cool.

The Anime Basement

7 Anime With Great Rewatch Values!

Let’s keep the recommendation theme going! You can clearly trust the recommendations in the previous two posts, because you can easily see the quality of the bloggers’ posts! So you know the series will be enjoyable. But what if you’re in the mood for something not only comforting, but old and comforting. Something you’ve seen before. The only drawback there is that not all series, even ones that were comfortable, stand up to repeated rewatches. Well, good news! Keni from The Anime Basement has got you covered! This post contains 7 series that you can watch again and again. I can personally vouch for four of them, and that’s only because I haven’t seen the other three yet (with apologies to Dewbond, since of the three is a series I promised him I’d watch!). See what you think of the list.

Anime as a Cup of Tea

RCMD: 10 Anime That Shaped Happiness

It’s a good theme, so let’s wrap up with another recommendation post to help you get through what’s already the most unusual situation I’ve seen during my lifetime! Let’s say your social distancing has let you watch Rose’s recommendations (that sounds like a new blog column, doesn’t it?), NaChiKyoTsuki97’s suggestion, and Keni’s list. You go off foraging on your own, but wouldn’t it be nice to have the feeling of community from investigating a blogger’s suggestion? Ethan_07’s post on Anime as a Cup of Tea gives us a list of 10 series that will bring you happiness — which is a really good goal right now! I’ve seen 7 of them, and I can attest to their happy quotient — especially the last one in the list!
