Other Posts to Crow About – 2020 Week 3 Edition

This is a Crow’s eye view of the posts that caught my attention this week. I look for posts that celebrate amazing moments in anime or otherwise blow me away with their wit and charm. I check hundreds of sites, and I can tell you that the ani-blogging community’s quality and quantity of posts is amazing. I hope this article helps you find some of them.

What sites do I check every week? You can see the list of the sites here!

Review Order

This week, I reviewed the sites in alphabetical order (A to Z).

A Certain Scientific Railgun T – Episode 1 Reaction

I hope you can forgive me for being nervous when I saw the announcement for A Certain Scientific Railgun T. I’ve loved the franchise since forever; I like the companion series A Certain Magical Index almost as much! Well, except for the third season… If you liked the third season, more power to you! But it made me really anxious for the next installments — and A Certain Scientific Accelerator didn’t help much! However, as I watched the first episode of Railgun T, I felt a certain calm come over me. The reasons are numerous, and I’m going to turn you over to Matt at Anime Positive for the details. I mean, seriously, read Matt’s post was like I was reading my own reaction!

Another Anime Review

Weathering With You Extends Makoto Shinkai’s Cinematic Legacy

The good news is that I have a full time job for which I’m thankful. The bad news is that — you guessed it! — I have a full time job that eats into my anime viewing time! Add that to the fact I work in the computer security field, and I’m literally on 24 x 7 x 365. So it really eats into my anime viewing time. Not to mention my sleep time! What that means is that I haven’t been able to see the new movie Weathering with You. After reading David’s post on Another Anime Review, I think this is even more serious problem than I thought. Not only does David paint a picture of a movie that’s superlative in almost all respects, but he makes a statement that is the highest praise I’ve ever read for a movie. I’m am so tempted to reproduce it here, but it’s best if you experience it in context. So, please, do yourself a favor and head on over to Another Anime Review.

Fortress William

MY HERO ACADEMIA – ERI CHOOSES TO BE SAVED

If I say that My Hero Academia Season 4 has a lot going for it, you might be tempted to think I’m biased because Irina (of I Drink and Watch Anime) and I are collaborating to review it this season (for example, like this review). And you might think that selecting a My Hero Academia-themed post to highlight for Other Posts to Crow About is likewise self aggrandizing. Well, you might be right. But only partially right! I actually do think that this season is solid, and I think the characters are part of that equation. As evidence, may I present this post by GeatsxShogun on Fortress William? The post explores Eri’s role in recent episodes. It takes a strong, authentic character to support this kind of analysis — see if you agree!

IT’S GONNA BE OKAY

Character Arcs: How Izuku Midoriya redefines the shonen hero

I sense a theme developing in the third Other Posts to Crow About of 2020! I just got done talking about how a character’s depth is a great indicator of the show’s quality. And almost as if to bolster my argument, I find another fantastic character analysis for My Hero Academia Season 4! This time, the writer is Mari, and the site is IT’S GONNA BE OKAY. The character who’s the subject of this insightful analysis? None other than Izuku Midoriya/Deku, the main character. What makes this post so great? Two things. First, the writer’s favorite character is Tsuyu Asui/Froppy. If that doesn’t scream exceptional taste, I don’t know what does! What’s the other thing? The post has a great grasp of history — hence the post’s title! It even made a historical connection that I’d completely missed — but that makes perfect sense once you see it.

TigerAnime

Rock Lee – A Symbol of an Undying Will

It’s funny how coincidence can strings events together to make them almost seem like the plot in an anime episode — a well-crafted plot at that. For example, the previous two entries in this week’s Other Posts to Crow About talked about My Hero Academia Season 4. That got me thinking about shōnen anime in general. What was my favorite character, for example? No lie, Rock Lee was the first character to come to mind. The reasons are exactly what make this genre so interesting. This post by Tiger from TigerAnime describes it way better than I have — and it included more details than I remembered! For me, it was a refreshing trip down memory lane. Check out the post to see why Rock Lee was such a great character! Then go watch one of the scenes that Tiger describes. You can find it in the original Naruto series, episode 50 (around 10:35).

  1. Many thanks for the mention! I hope you get to see Weathering With You soon, before anyone over-shares. . .

    1. “Many thanks for the mention!”

      You’re welcome!

“I hope you get to see Weathering With You soon, before anyone over-shares. . .”

Me, too. I accidentally read the twist in Your Name. I can’t be too upset; I should have seen it sooner! Still…
