Outbreak Company Ep 5 Review – Quick Summary
In Outbreak Company Ep 5, “This Really Is Another World,” Shinichi Kanou began to teach the students about bishōjo games. While Minori Koganuma was supportive, she had a particular subject she absolutely wanted to make sure she got covered. How long will she wait before Shinichi supports her? Meanwhile, Elbia Hanaiman started her career as an illustrator, and things seemed to go very well. Then, Myucel Foaran noticed that the werewolf suddenly lost her appetite. Shinichi went to check on her, but what he saw chilled him to his bones. Was the Empresses Petralka and her court right? Was Elbia really a military asset — maybe even an assassin? Shinichi felt like his life depended on the answer!

Best in Show Moment for Outbreak Company Ep 5
Shinichi really wasn’t listening when Minori told him she’d received imperial approval for her subject. He was too worried that Elbia might try to murder him. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Minori Knows What She Wants
We’ve seen before how Minori likes her Boys Love (BL) manga and anime. She tried to teach some of the finer points to the class in episode 4, though the concept of sou-uke seemed to be a bit outside their experience.
Well, as you might expect from a soldier, Minori is tenacious. She wanted to share her love in class form. At the same time, she wanted to follow the rules. She wanted to support Shinichi’s position, because he’s the principal. She knew that she’d disrupt the classes if she undermined his authority in front of the students. What that means is she won’t out and out disobey him.
In this episode, Minori tried being up front. On the way into class, she asked (03:00), “Are you holding a lesson on BL today?” He said he didn’t have any plans to do that.
Minori casually slipped her question into their conversation. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
On the way home from school, she asked if he was planning to present any BL lessons for tomorrow’s class. He said (07:00), “No, I hadn’t planned on it.”
The next day, she tried being cheerful and saying that the class was learning so fast, they needed to keep up with new material. “Don’t you think it’s about time? For BL, I mean?”
Still, Shinichi wasn’t ready to embrace her passion. I’m sure Minori was prepared to ask every day until he said yes, but it had become plain the tactic wasn’t working. She was ready for an alternative.
Delivery: Minori Knows How to Seize the Day
Said alternative presented itself that evening. Petralka had invited Shinichi and Minori to the palace so she could show off her mastery of “Tsundora.” She’d misspoken, of course. She meant “tsundere.” It was a charming scene that ended with Petralka saying that otaku culture was deeper than she’d expected.
Surprisingly, Galious agreed with Petralka. He even admitted to Shinichi that he’d been wrong to speak against it earlier. What changed his mind? The Library of Minori. She had loaned him a BL manga. He handed it back to her, saying (15:38), “Thank you. It was very informative.”
I really liked how nonchalant Galious was as he talked about the manga to Minori. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
There were two things I thought were cool about this scene. First, it seemed like Galious found some comfort knowing there were writers who helped him feel at ease. As a side benefit, Minori now has someone else she can celebrate BL manga with!
Second was my favorite moment. On the way back from the castle, leveraging Galious’ position and support, Minori announced that (16:18), “So, now we have official approval from her advisors to add BL to our classes!” Being tenacious and flexible seems to have paid off for Minori.
