Outbreak Company Ep 6 Review – Quick Summary

In Outbreak Company Ep 6, “Soccer… Soccer?,” Minori Koganuma received an extra special package in the mail: a commemorative gold soccer ball from one of her favorite anime series. She was lovingly describing the show to Shinichi Kanou when the ball just vanished! Well, not exactly, but Elbia Hanaiman moved so quickly that neither Minor nor Shinichi even saw her steal the ball. Turns out werewolves love playing with balls! After a squad of soldiers helped restrain Minori, Shinichi got an idea: Maybe a friendly game of soccer would resolve the tensions between the elves and dwarves in his class! Both teams read manga and watched anime to prepare. On the day of the game, even the Empresses Petralka attended. But from the first whistle, the game did not go the way Shinichi had envisioned. Will any of them even survive to the second half?

Best in Show Moment for Outbreak Company Ep 6

Outbreak Company Ep 6: Petralka and Myucel make a great team.

It was funny that out of everyone who played soccer that day, Petralka and Myucel, members of two very different social classes, had the most fun. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Setup: Armageddon in Soccer Form…

Shinichi’s idealistic vision of sports didn’t hold water. Minor knew it. So did Matoba Jinzaburou. Both of them told him as much, but both stopped short of trying to talk him out of holding a soccer game for his students. Minori wanted to see the elves in sports outfits. And Matoba? I’m still not sure what he wants out of this…

Ordinarily, after the announcement of a sporting event, an anime would treat us to a training montage. We kind of got that, but instead of anything physical, the elves and dwarves binged anime and read sports manga. As far as I can tell, there was no actual practice. But they sure understood the sentiment!

The dwarves took the field with a plan. Romilda stood at mid field. “If you’ve got the goal in your sights,” she said, repeating a line from a show she had watched and eyeing the goal with a single elf goalie (10:57), “then shoot…”

Shinichi blew the whistle. Romilda’s kick sent the ball through the goal at the other end of the field.

Outbreak Company Ep 6: Romilda scored the first goal in about one second.

It took Romilda every bit of a second to score after Shinichi had blown the whistle. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

It went downhill from there. Minori, angry that the elves faced a 50 point deficient at half time, demanded they be able to use magic. By the time the second half was almost over, fierce magical energy wrought flames in the sky. At once point, titans took the field amid the fallen dwarves and elves. And then, only Romilda and one elf remained standing. They both staggered towards the ball, determined to score the winning point for their team.

Delivery: …Ended by a Werewolf, an Empress, and a Maid

The game so far had been a great send-up of anime sports series. Outbreak Company wasn’t ridiculing them, but it was gently tweaking their tropes. After a game that had devastated both sides and had driven the spectators away, what was next?

Denying the warring sides the victory.

First, Elbia stole the bar just to bounce it around. Romilda and the elf staggered after her, but they were spent. There was no way they’d ever catch her.

At that moment, Petralka threw off her ruling finery to show she’d been wearing a tee-shirt and shorts underneath. She took the ball from Elbia and dribbled down the field. Elbia, taking a moment to recover from her shock, pursued.

In a move that looked like it had been planned, Petralka called on Myucel for help. The half-elf used her power to lift the empress into the air where she had a clear shot at the goal. Her kick wouldn’t win any awards for power, but she did manage to get the ball to the goal. She tied the game.

Outbreak Company Ep 6: Myucel has some serious magical skills.

Shinichi better be careful not to cross Myucel. The woman has some serious power. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

There was something patently ridiculous about a half-elf and a human empress, members of two social classes who didn’t get along, teaming up to score the final goal.
