Outbreak Company Ep 10 Review – Quick Summary

In Outbreak Company Ep 10, “Magical Girl Petralka,” Jinzaburou Matoba brought bad news to everyone: someone had leaked the video of the soccer game from episode 6 to the internet! Military enthusiasts were getting close to identifying the Self Defense Force (SDF) troops amid the magical mayhem! Shinichi came up with a terrific idea to make a movie so they could claim the soccer footage was part of a fantasy film. Minori agreed and offered to direct. Myucel, and Elbia, Romilda would help, too. They needed a star, so Shinichi begged Petralka. She agreed, but she didn’t know about the dragon. And it turned out the dragon wasn’t the biggest problem!

Favorite Quote from Outbreak Company Ep 10

“Take five,” Romilda shouted into the megaphone (05:00). We’ll resume filming in 30 minutes!”

Seeing the dwarf Romilda, still dressed in her native garb, acting as an assistant director to Minori, made me smile. It looked like the role suited her!

Seeing Myucel’s ears blushing were adorable. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Setup: A Tough Episode

This episode challenged me. It’s not that I didn’t like it. It’s that I really didn’t buy into the major jokes. Minori using spray deodorant, for example. In both occasions, it was almost as if a soldier (like the one who had tried to take peep shots of her in the previous episode) said she was perspiring — almost like he held the Power of Shame over her or something.

Petralka’s reaction at the end, and her impotent demands that the movie be stopped, struck me the wrong way. She’s the Empress. If she says to turn it off, it should be off. Immediately. Otherwise, to me at least, it felt like the goal was to humiliate and disempower her. It felt a lot different than how she’s been treated before, though it put me in mind of Dawnstorm’s comments back in episode 2. That kind of treatment isn’t something I enjoy.

I didn’t like to see Petralka’s authority diminished for the purposes of humor. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

On the other hand, the episode was not without its high points, and there was one I thought was particularly enjoyable. Romilda had just uttered the Favorite Quote (see above) and the cast was taking a breather. Shinichi and Myucel were dressed in school uniforms, and she approached him to talk.

Delivery: It’s Myucel’s Turn to Shine!

Myucel’s affection for Shinichi is pure. I sometimes wonder if she likes him so much because he’s the first one to treat her well simply as a matter of course. Still, it’s clear she’s smitten, though he’s way too dense to see it.

She complimented him on how he wore the uniform. He brushed it aside, saying that he was used to wearing it. It seemed like that was the kind of school uniform he’d worn back in high school.

Without changing his expression or tone, he said (05:20), “You look good in yours, too!”

The camera angle showed his face and the back of her head. Her ears blushed. Her adorable, elegant elf ears blushed red at his compliment.

She thanking him and said, “We even match!”

Myucel was even happy that her costume and Shinichi’s matched. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

I don’t remember seeing an elf’s ears blush before. I suspect the world might be a bit brighter a place if such a thing were more common!
