Princess Connect! Re: Dive Season 2 Episode 6 Review – Quick Summary
In Princess Connect! Re: Dive Season 2 Episode 6, “Code Name: Monika ~Bouillabaisse Is Best Enjoyed Hot~”, Monika thought she was spying on Landosol for the benefit of her home country. And as a loyal soldier, she was! Unfortunately, she had been cursed with a terrible team whose best accomplishment was accumulating a massive collection of porn. Soon, Monika got caught up in a mystery centered on a marauding knight whose abilities were, to say the least, unusual. And then she met Pecorine…

Monika gets credit for realizing that one should not detonate four bombs in the middle of a bridge. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I felt bad for Monika. Clearly, she saw herself as a reliable, earnest soldier in service to her home country. Yeah, she was probably spying on Landosol, and on behalf of Pecorine, I should look askance at that. But I had to admire her integrity.
Which is why I felt so bad for her! The members of her team did not appear to be brimming with skills. Heck, they didn’t even look like they were even close to competent. Take Ninon Joubert, for example. To celebrate their victory over some dragon-like creature, she prepared some of her home-grown explosives. Which she balanced on her arms. In the middle of a stone bridge.
Seeing they were about to explode, Monika screamed (03:46), “You id—”
I assume she was going to say idiot, and to her credit, I have to agree. Ninon setting off a massive explosion in the middle of a bridge, not to mention in the middle of her four person team, did not scream professionalism.
The bridge, however, did scream, if a bridge can be said to scream. You’d scream too if your middle had been blown clean off!
Yeah, I felt bad for Monika.
Best in Show Moment for Princess Connect! Re: Dive Season 2 Episode 6
Yuuki has been through so much, and yet here he is, captivated by a small toy. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Yuuki is Beset by Contrasts
I’m glad the series decided to take a step back from the intense drama of episode 4 and episode 5. It’s hard for me to be sure until after the season’s over, though I’m sure others can see it more quickly than I can, but I think those episodes constituted Pinch 1, which forces the heroes into action. Or maybe it was a step before, which is Plot Turn 1, when the world changes. Either way, they were intense, and having an episode like this one helped me appreciate them even more.
That intensity also set the stage for my favorite moment in this episode. I’ll tell you up front: It’s a minor thing. It’s not a major plot point, though it did hint at the resolution. It’s not a big, loud, or obvious moment. You could even characterize it as a throw-away moment of minor humor, at Yuuki’s expense.
Yuuki didn’t know it at the time, but this character would play an important role later. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
It was very early in the episode. We didn’t know her at the time, but Jun Shirogane, Captain of the Guard, stood nearby as she examined the job postings. A small toy monkey with cymbals had attracted Yuuki’s attention. He crouched down in front of it.
The little toy crashed its cymbals together, like those toys do. Seemingly entranced, Yuuki clapped in time.
Delivery: The Brave Warrior, Clapping Along
There was something about that moment that struck me as immeasurably sad. We know now what Yuuki’s been through. The image of him pushing himself in front of Past-Pecorine, so he could take the blast Kaiser Insight intended to slay Pecorine, came to mind. So did the image of him on the gurney, gasping for breath, nearly dead, as Labyrista gave him the choice: Die with all his relationships intact, or forsake them to try again.
And there he was, mesmerized by a little monkey toy, clapping along in time, happy just in the moment (01:52).
Even seemingly random scenes like this one with Christina, Vice Captain of the Guard, take on new meaning now that we’ve seen what we’ve seen. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Even in a light little scene, this show had me feeling the weight of the world. The show might stumble in the end. It might not stick the landing, to use another cliche. But I tell you what, if it doesn’t give me a single moment of joy from now until the end, it’s still succeeded in moving me. Not a lot of series can say that. And we’re only on episode 6.
What did you think of Yuuki lighting Kuuka Tomi’s stash on fire? What were your favorite moments? Please feel free to let me know in the comments!

There is something sweet and sad watching Yuuki. Has been through so much. Tragedy has brought him to this condition too. Even with Ameth piecing his mind back together it is a slow process. At least he can find joy in small things like seeing that toy.
My condolences to Monika. She has assembled a group of…unusual talents. Clearly they are strong enough to bring down that monster and…tough enough to handle an explosion that destroyed a bridge.
That’s a good point about Monika’s guild being pretty strong! They did take down that huge monster; they did survive a point blank blast that destroyed the stone bridge.
There are just a ton of interesting characters in this series!
I think Yuuki burning Kuuka is out of worry since he didn’t want anyone to suffer at Twilight Caravan’s hands which is sad too since Yuuki had a good relationship before the reset.
The anime takes place when Yuuki and co faield to stop Kaiser. All the bonds he had with Gourmet Edifice, Twinkle Wish, Caon, NIGHTMARE, Little Lyrical etc are all gone and he had to restart everything from scratch.
Was Yuuki worried that Kuuka’s kinks (that almost sounds like a boutique) would eventually lead her to Twilight Caravan? I don’t think I know anything about Yuuki’s relationships before the reset, since I’m anime-only. Or maybe I missed some hints!
I hope the anime explores some of those pre-reset relationships. It looks like Yuuki was someone of some importance.
