Review: Dr. Stone Episode 06 – Best In Show

Quick Summary

In Dr. Stone episode 06, “Two Nations of the Stone World,” Taiju Ooki and Yuzuriha Ogawa apply the thawing liquid to the remains of the stone on the back of Senkuu’s neck. Will the extraordinary restorative power of the stone’s removal bring him back to life? Meanwhile, their gunpowder blast alerted other humans to their presence. One of those other humans, Kohaku, had been watching from a distance. Now, she approaches Tsukasa Shishiou with an arm full of flowers. What’s she up to? If she has intentions other than submission, what chance does someone as small as she is stand against the monster that is Tsukasa? And where did she come from, anyway?

Best Moment in the Show

I admire a woman who knows how to handle deadly weapons! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream

We get to meet Kohaku, and her introduction is my Best In Show moment for this episode. But it might not be for the reason you expect!

Or it might be, depending on how long you’ve been reading my blog.

I’m guessing that you expect me to be enthusiastic about meeting Kohaku because she’s beautiful! And to be honest, the guy part of my brain is sitting there with a stupid grin on his face. Even the hyper-rational part of my brain is giving a thumbs up to the artists who came up with her character model. Well done, I say!

But that’s not the reason. Also not the reason is how she fearlessly attacked Tsukasa. She showed that she’s decisive. She’s fast. And against almost any other opponent, I think she would have had a chance. Heck, she even made Tsukasa back up once, and Taiju couldn’t do that! No, as dramatic and cool as her attack was, that’s not my favorite moment.

Kohaku is fast! Too bad she took on a foe who is more a force of nature and less a man. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream

This is my favorite moment: “I saw everything,” she said (19:04). She had seen Tsukasa take Yuzuriha hostage before killing “the gentleman” who stood up for her (Senkuu).

Sure, she hadn’t heard the entire conversation, so there’s a chance she misinterpreted. But we know she didn’t. She saw something terrible happen, saw who had done it, and recognized him as a clear and present danger. She decided to do something about it.

I’ve mentioned before that I like strong women characters. Turns out I especially like decisive, strong women characters!

What did you think of Kohaku’s introduction? What was your Best in Show moment? Let me know in the comments!

  1. It was a nice introduction to a new character and one I quite appreciated. Hopefully she turns out to be an interesting character as we go forward.

Please let me know what you think!
