In Midnight occult civil servants episode 6, "Devil and Sense of Loss," we get a rare glimpse of Arata Miyako in his off hours playing video games with his childhood friend Izumi. They make a good, comfortable couple -- and one has to wonder what Kohaku will think of that. Later, one of the girls Arata and his co-workers had rescued from their first encounter with Kohaku awakened and told them something startling: that she had been abducted in the 1960s and hadn't aged since. She also remembered fine-grained black sand from her captivity, and she could no longer sing -- her abductor had stolen her singing voice. Kyouichi Sakaki confided that his sister had been abducted in a similar way. He begged Arata to help him talk to Kohaku. Will Arata let his co-worker talk to the trickster with amber eyes -- after that very same co-worker had warned Arata never to attempt such a thing? And just what will Kohaku do about Arata's friend who seemed to be taking time away from the god?

Best Moment in the Show
Izumi's smiling happily at Arata? Yeah, something dreadful is about to happen! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
The instant we saw Izumi at the beginning of the show, especially after we learned she was Arata's childhood friend, I had a bad feeling. As the show developed, we learned that Another was busily kidnapping girls to steal specific parts of them to use as building blocks for a perfect human bride. When we saw Kohaku tell this mysterious Another that he'd found the perfect donor for the last piece he was missing, my sense of foreboding grew! So by the time Arata took Izumi to the fair, I had this seriously intense feeling of dread!
It was well-founded.
Saying she'd like a drink (nothing with carbonation), Arata went to the nearest stall selling drinks. As he turned to bring the drinks back, she smiled and waved to him. And -- yep, you guessed it! -- the Another chose this moment to grab her and begin receding in a cloud of black sand.
That's not my favorite part. It was cool and dreadful and dramatic and all, but the cool part was what happened when Arata sprinted after them (19:04). As he closed in, the Another accelerated away, and it became clear that Arata would never catch them. But even getting close to them changed his flow of time. When he started to run, it was daylight. When he finished, it was two hours later! His co-workers even mentioned how he was so late.
Now, that's attention to detail!
