Review: My Hero Academia s4 ep86 – A Gentle Victory

In My Hero Academia Season 4 episode 86, “Let It Flow! School Festival!,” Ryou Inui/Hound Dog had taken custody of Danjuurou Tobita/Gentle Criminal, who was in sorry shape after his fight with Izuku Midoriya/Deku. Having been impressed by Midoriya’s honest heroism, Gentle tried to convince Hound Dog that Manami Aiba/La Brava was innocent; that she was a victim of his brain washing.

Deku watched in shock as Gentle tried to talk Hound Dog into believing La Brava was completely innocent. I think Gentle learned a little something from Deku. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

We know that Gentle didn’t make it all the way to the festival. But was he close enough to be a problem? Will they shut it all down? If they don’t, can Deku make it back in time?

Will we finally get to see the human disco ball?

This week, it’s Irina’s turn to host our collaboration review on I Drink and Watch Anime. Did Irina and I like the episode? Did we have one of our trade marked knock-down-drag-out fights over the merits of La Brava’s placement in frame?

Have we ever had a knock-down-drag-out fight?

You can find out by reading our post here!

    1. I liked how it reminded me of the earlier seasons. Thematically, I like how it showed how Deku could have ended up if he had not attracted All Might’s attention.

I think my favorite MHA episodes deal with the grays of the heroing world.

  1. I think this episode embodies “not with a bang, but with a whimper”, a lackluster ending to what’s been a disappointing cour.

    1. I’m seeing it in a very different light. I wonder if it comes down to expectations? I’ve enjoyed the arc overall, with a few minor quibbles.

      1. Taken in isolation, no, the arc isn’t without it’s flaws but it’s not actually bad.

But taken within the larger context of the show, and especially following the overly long battle arc at the bad guy’s hideout… That is, my expectations were set by the previous five cour and the latest simply doesn’t measure up.

Please let me know what you think!
