Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 2 episode 30, “A Step Forward,” might be the best named or the worst named episode in Re:ZERO’s illustrious history. If you’d rather read our review of Re:ZERO season 2 Episode 30 instead of my musings on the title, it’s Irina’s turn to host it on her site I Drink and Watch Anime. You can read it here!
This week’s episode might have the best title because it starts out with Subaru meeting Echidna in the magic version of his old classroom. She’s wearing his school’s uniform. “First off,” Subaru said, “there’s something I’d like to say.”
Did he berate her for the emotional ordeal he experienced in the previous episode? Did he yell at her for manipulating his life? No. He showed a profound level of maturity and culture when he said, “You look pretty good in that uniform” (00:08).
I admire Subaru’s priorities in this episode. And I’m still trying to figure out why this witch is so attractive! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Subaru gets points for poise under pressure. I’m impressed he kept his priorities straight.
This week might have the worst title because… Well, I haven’t given you any spoiler tags, and frankly, I’d like you to read our full review. So, please do click here to read the review on I Drink and Watch Anime to see why the title might be the worst! I’ll give you a hint: It’s about the ending.
What, you say? I should not have spoiled what Subaru said to Echidna? That’s not a secret. It’s been all over the internet! And besides, isn’t it obvious? Now, if I’d spoiled the ending, then I’d have some explaining to do!

She has thinck blonde eyelashes. You don’t see a lot of that. It makes her exotic.
I’m getting the feeling that she is like Emilia’s tougher, street-smart alter ego. I like her. There’s a lot of mystery and depth there. As long as she doesn’t go full-on evil, she is a much more interesting character.

Good point!
The more I think about it, the more I realized she reminded me of a woman I dated in college. I didn’t expect _that_ memory to show up!
“As long as she doesn’t go full-on evil, she is a much more interesting character.”
Absolutely! I don’t think she’s evil, because she said she’s done things she regrets and she could have chosen to make Subaru’s life a lot harder — but she didn’t.
I’m still really curious what she thinks of Subaru coming from a different world. She just glossed over that point!
For all we know, she may have been the one who brought him.
When I was in aerospace, we had a saying, “give something the hairy eyeball.” It meant to inspect very closely. Echidna brings a new meaning to it.
