Shuffle! Episode 06 – Quick Summary
In Shuffle! Episode 6, “Smile!,” Rin and Kaede once again left for school – leaving Primula home alone with her stuffed cat. Rin worried about Primula, because every time they left, she seemed so sad. Kaede, Sia, Nerine, and even Asa thought his attitude commendable. But the question of Primula’s state remained. Was she comfortable being home alone? If not, why didn’t she say anything? And will Itsuki ever stop shipping Rin with Primula?

Itsuki continues to be a good source of comic relief. He is merciless when it comes to teasing Rin (though I wish he’d drop the loli-con thing), though it does seem like he has a reputation among some of the class’s women-folk as a source of inspiration.
On the way to school that morning, Rin, Kaede, Sia, and Nerine tried to come up with a way to cheer up Primula. They didn’t come up with much beyond Rin’s resolution. Which was cool – I like seeing that he cares about the people around him.
Later, in class, Itsuki launched into his “I won’t judge you for being a lolicon” speeches, but this one was targeted. Itsuki seemed to have inside knowledge about Rin’s conversation on the way to school. Sia, Nerine, and even Kaede apologized to Rin, saying that they thought Itsuki might know how to “cheer up a girl” (07:27).
Turning a dubious expression on Itsuki, Rin said (07:28), “You clearly chose the wrong guy to consult.”
I enjoy seeing how Rin doesn’t just take the jabs – he gives as good as he gets!

Given how much I like action, I’m surprised how much I’m enjoying Shuffle! so far. The show’s moving at a pace that encourages us to get to know Kaede, Asa, Sia, Nerine, and now Permula, if only a little. It didn’t just throw us into the middle of a situation and hope we caught up. It’s easing us into it.
It helps that the show has given us a decent human being as the main character. My favorite moment is a direct result of him trying to be kind in an effort to cheer up Primula. None of them had seen her smile, and it bothered them – especially Rin.
Things came to a head when she brought her stuffed cat to school because a seam had come undone. That made Rin said. Also, he remembered that she had wanted Rin to win a stuffed animal.
The girls took Primula shipping for underwear. And I must say that Asa continues to be very confident in how she playfully pursues Rin. She picked out a piece of lingerie and asked him if she’d look good in it.
I think even now, she has designs on Rin. Also, that green would look good on her. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
He did well maintaining his composure.
But he eventually had had enough, so he left the store. That’s when he got the idea to track down a stuffed cat like the one she had wanted him to win for her. The episode treated us to a montage of Rin looking everywhere until he finally found one.
Remember how the episode was all about Primula’s lack of smiling? When he gave her the new stuffed cat, she hugged it tightly and finally smiled. It was an endearing moment! Of course, this being Shuffle!, it came with some overhead: Primula smiling, at least in part, in response to a memory of her childhood. I’m looking forward to finding out what that means!
