Shuffle! Episode 10 – Quick Summary
In Shuffle! Episode 10, “Moonlit Confession,” Rin spent so much time with Sia in the previous episode that rumors started to spread. Before they knew it, even Sia’s dad, Eustoma, assumed the two of them were getting married. You can guess how well that went over with Kaede, Asa, and Nerine. It was even a shock to Rin! Sia, however, seemed much less shocked. Has Rin really decided to propose to her? What about the feelings of the other women? And what will Sia’s fan club do to Rin when they find out?

This was an emotionally heavy episode. I like that about it. It adds a realistic dimension that’s often missing from harem romances.
I felt the intensity more because I like most of these characters. Sure, it’s cool to see Sia happy because she’s “winning.” But Kaede and Asa are very likeable, and seeing them upset and unsure of what to do was tough.
Then there’s Nerine. Nerine is a sweet girl. Yes, she has a ridiculous amount of magic. Yes, it’s a bad idea to threaten Rin when she’s anywhere nearby. I can only assume that the last gang who tried that eventually got out of the hospital.
Nerine doesn’t seem the killing type.
But she did utter my favorite quote of the episode. Rin, having endured a day of judgment from seemingly everyone he encountered, met with Nerine at an outside cafe. Even there, Rin could hear people gossiping about him.
Nerine carried pain of her own. But seeing Rin uncomfortable and suffering, she said (13:37), “Um… Shall we go for a little walk Rin-sama?”
Even under those circumstances, she still thought of Rin. I thought that was another great example of how thoughtful she can be.

Setup: An Emotionally Resonate Episode
Like I said above, this episode gave us some heavy emotional moments. On one hand, we saw Sia having a great time with Rin. At first, Rin seemed to have fun as well. But as the rumors spread and surrounded them, and as people started gossiping within earshot, Rin’s enjoyment plummeted.
The show did a good job showing us the reactions from the other girls. Kaede tried, and failed completely, to put on a brave, happy face. Asa practically choked on her drink. Poor Nerine seemed to handle it the worst. She locked herself in her room and stared.
But even though she seemed to have the worst time dealing with it, Nerine was the one who took action. Her dad, Forbesii, seemed to have taken off-camera action to arrange for the meeting. But Nerine still went. It resulted first in my favorite quote. Then, as Nerine and Rin took their walk, they ended up in the playground where they had first met.

Nerine tried to hold it back, but she couldn’t help herself. “I also love you, Rin-Sama,” she said (17:59).Sia happened to be passing by. She heard. Sia really likes Nerine; it doesn’t seem to be affected at all. So Sia went home and pondered. “Falling in love with someone… means you have to bear the feelings of other people who love him, too,” she said (18:53).
Delivery: Sia Steps Up
She didn’t just come to a conclusion. Sia came up with a plan of action that culminated in my favorite moment. She invited Rin to take a midnight walk. Ending up in the school, she opened the window. The wind streamed in. I suspect Rin expected her to confess. Which she did. But she did it in a way he didn’t expect.
“You know, when I get married to you, I want everyone to acknowledge that I’m the one worthy of being your bride,” she said (20:56), the moonlight illuminating her. “By Rin-chan and Kae-chan and… Um… Um… And… And… Anyway, just everybody in the world! But I still have a long way to go right now, you know?”

Just like that, she put Rin at ease. He’s clearly not made his decision. The gossip of the day must have felt like a trap. There’s no way he wanted to hurt Sia’s feelings, and any kind of public repudiation would do just that. But she handed him not only an easy way out, but a way to continue to explore their feelings for each other.
These characters care about each other. Like I’ve said before, that’s part of this show’s enduring appeal for me.

This was my first time hearing about this series, but your review has me intrigued! I’m going to have to give it a watch.
