Favorite Quote from SPY x FAMILY Season 2 Episode 2

SPY x FAMILY Season 2 Episode 2: Yor had the best of intentions

Yor has the best intentions! The execution, though… Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

As Bond imagined several scenarios that ended in his death, I have to admit that at first, I wondered why he was being so extreme. I mean, sure, missing a meal for a pet seems like the end of the world, from their perspective. Heck, my cat is all over me starting 10 minutes before her feeding time. And if I miss it? She’ll jump up my desk, sit right in front of my monitor, and stare into my eyes.

I’m not sure which freaks me out the most: that she can tell time so accurately, that she thinks she can control me with telepathy, or that she can actually control me with telepathy. Empathy is a form of telepathy, isn’t it?

With my cat, it sure feels like it.

Anyway, my favorite quote: I wasn’t sure why Bond   felt so despondent. That is, until Yor said that she realized they had no dog food. “I’ll try to make your dinner with what we have around the house,” she added (02:16).

And suddenly, it all became crystal clear.

Favorite Moment from SPY x FAMILY Season 2 Episode 2

SPY x FAMILY Season 2 Episode 2: Henry Henderson understood what was important

Henry Henderson knew what was important. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Setup: They Can’t All Be about Yor’s Butt

I loved the logic diagrams as Bond worked through the various scenarios facing him. It helped reinforce just how bad the situation was, from his perspective. I felt bad for the Forger’s family pet! Even Anya turned her back on him!

If I’m honest (and I try to be!), I have to admit this wasn’t my favorite episode. That’s not saying much, given how much I usually like this show’s offerings. But I really want to know more about Yor, and even Loid. Heck, I want to know more about the world around them. But maybe that’s the point? Keep me wanting more, but give me a bit here and there?

SPY x FAMILY Season 2 Episode 2: Bond stared death in the face

It’s not that I dislike Bond. Not at all! But there are other characters I’m dying to know more about! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

That’s probably called reveal pacing.

That said, this episode offered a lot of pleasant little moments. One of my favorite secondary characters, Henry Henderson, gave me a moment that qualified as my favorite. He had to give Damien extra work, depriving him of going on a movie outing, as punishment for waking up late.Damien, to his credit, accepted his fate. He even embraced, because it would give him more time to study. His friends, Ewen and Emile, really wanted him to go with them to see the movie. They tried to convince him. But seeing his resolve, they realized the effort was futile.

Delivery: Henry Henderson Knows What’s What

But did they just go see the movie without him? No. They came up with a plan. A silly, sloppy, obvious plan, but that just made it all the more adorable. They walked around in Henry Henderson’s slight – eating chips and looking disheveled.

Henderson knew what they were doing. He tried to ignore them, in fact, to give them a chance. But bowing to the inevitable, he gave them what they wanted. He ordered them to help Damien.

As they did so – or at least did something that almost looked like help – Henderson watched from a partially closed door.

SPY x FAMILY Season 2 Episode 2: Ewen and Emile sort of helped Damien with his chores

Ewen and Emile kind of helped Damien with his work. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

“Elegant… Your friendship,” he said admiringly (13:05). “… preciously elegant.”

These folks like in a pretty dark world, what with the warring factions and oppressive government surveillance. So seeing someone in a position of authority like Henderson speak in this way struck me: even amid the darkest time, there are still some who know what’s important, and acknowledge it.

Sometimes, that’s the best we can do.

What did you think of of Damien, Ewen, and Emile’s outing? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

  1. Yeah, though this episode didn’t focus on my favorite characters, it was pretty cute. And I did get to learn a little bit about Damien to make him a bit more of a three dimensional character. I love how Henderson understands that kids need education, but they also need time to play and be kids. That field report “punishment” was exactly what Damien needed. I also really liked how this episode highlighted that Ewen and Emile aren’t just Damien’s lackies, but are legitimately his friends and want him to be happy. Very cute!

    1. All good points — especially about Damien’s friends.

I’ve always liked Henderson. It seems to me that he doesn’t have anything to do with oppression, or state spying. The dude just wants to run an elegant school, and he really wants the kids to learn. It’s hard not to root for the guy!
