Synduality Noir Episode 6 – Quick Summary

In Synduality Noir episode 6, “Die is Cast,” Kanata, Noir, Tokio, and Mouton were out on a mission when it started to rain. The rain itself was dangerous. It also attracted Enders, so they needed to find cover. Fortunately, a city named Baccaranest was nearby. Unfortunately, it was a gambling city. You can guess what Tokio immediately set about doing! What will Kanata and Noir do? Who will they meet there? And isn’t it about time for Range and Dolce to find their way home?

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Synduality Noir Episode 6: Tokio felt left out

Tokio seemed to feel left out. But he won’t get any credit for losing his shirt! Capture from the Hulu stream.

At the end, after Kanata and Noir (okay – mostly Noir) freed Ciel from Range’s clutches, Ciel wanted to thank her liberators. They not only won the contract from Range; Kanata also tore it up so Ciel became a free woman. Free Magus. Whatever.

I’m still not sure what makes a Magus a Magus and not “just” a man or a woman.

Anyway, Ciel profusely thanked Kanata and Noir. Feeling left out, Tokio asked why no one thanked him.

“You didn’t do anything, Tokio,” Kanata said (21:39).

“You’re harsh,” Tokio said.

Harsh, but accurate!

Synduality Noir Episode 6: Noir's Magus Skill packs a punch

Apparently, Noir has a Magus Skill. A powerful one, too! Capture from the Hulu stream.

Setup: Gorgeous Backgrounds

During the cage match at the end, did your captioning get really erratic? The captions I saw were either timed wrong or missing entirely. Considering how much we pay for Hulu and have to watch ads (at least on my pricing tier), that did not enhance my viewing experience.

Not blaming the studio – I think Hulu or whoever they contracted with are responsible for captioning.

That said, whoever drew the background art in this episode enjoyed themselves. Seemed to know their way around a casino, too – or performed solid research. I found the environments in this episode to be immersive and just a lot of fun to look at.

Synduality Noir Episode 6: The sets looked gorgeous

The sets looked particularly appealing in this episode. Capture from the Hulu stream.

I’m going with a straight-forward moment as my favorite. The show’s done a decent job preparing us for something like this. We’ve known that Noir is more than she seems. A lot more. My favorite moment gave us some idea of what she’s capable of.

She and Kanata has beaten the other contenders in the cage match. Of course, Range had plans for that – he had said anyone could join at any time, as long as they had the entry fee. So, after Kanata defeated all the other contenders – thus expending energy and munitions – Range decided it was time for him and his goons to jump into the fray.

Delivery: Lightning from on High

Now, it’s important to keep in mind that Kanata’s still a new Drifter. He’s getting better, but he’s not at Range’s skill level yet. So it was only a matter of time before he lost.

The bad news? Range immobilized Kanata and pointed a gun at Kanata’s mech’s pilot compartment.

The good news? Range monologued. That gave Noir time to let the despair of the situation sink in and override whatever it is that has suppressed her memories. She powered up. Way up. Clean out of the cockpit, in fact. Her hair turned black and her eyes went white.

Synduality Noir Episode 6: Noir flying through the ceiling surprised Kanata

Kanata did not expect Noir to turn ethereal and fly through the ceiling. Capture from the Hulu stream.

From on high, she rained lighting onto Range and Dolce (20:00).

The music did its job; so did Aoi Koga, Noir’s voice actor. The animation sold the impact of her attack, too. There were other moments in contention for my favorite, like at the end where Ciel took the selfie with Kanata and Noir. That moment had more emotional warmth. But sometimes, you just want to see a villain get a solid beat down. That’s exactly what Noir delivered.
