The Detective Is Already Dead Episode 6 Review – Quick Summary
In The Detective is Already Dead episode 6, “Crimson Devil, Ice Queen,” Kimihiko Kimizuka felt relieved that Siesta had procured a mech to save him from Hel and the monster she’d created. His confusion on how she had obtained such technology faded when Hel and the monster attacked. Siesta barely had time to get Kimihiko into the cockpit before the mech and monster started fighting it out. Then Hel began hurling her swords into the mech’s joints. Can Siesta successfully pilot a craft she had almost zero training in? What’s Hel’s plan? And will Kimihiko ever figure out how Siesta got her hands on a mech?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.
Favorite Quote from The Detective Is Already Dead Episode 6
At least Kimihiko had the good sense to tell her know how he felt! Capture from the Funimation stream.
During their fight against Hel and the Resident Evil/Doom 3 hybrid beast thing, Siesta injured her leg. Trying to be a diligent sidekick, Kimihiko hand-fed Siesta sliced apples. Did she relish such a treat? Nah. She complained that the apples weren’t juicy enough.
That didn’t bother Kimihito, though. He’d been around Siesta long enough to expect that. Seeing his slightly pained expression (which looks like his normal expression), Siesta asked if he were okay. Sarcastically, he replied, “Taking diligent care of a self-indulgent partner like this doesn’t faze me.”
She expressed relief. Frowning at her, he said, “Don’t ignore the sarcasm I put so much effort into” (13:30).
The banter between these two characters continues to be my favorite part of the show.
Best in Show Moment for The Detective Is Already Dead Episode 6
Kimihiko seriously pissed off Siesta in this episode. I can’t say that I blame her! Capture from the Funimation stream.
Setup: Loli in a Box?
Since Siesta declared that the apple wasn’t juicy enough, Kimihiko decided to go out and buy her some more apples. A whole bag, in fact. Apparently, he reasoned that buying a bag full would give him better odds of at least one of them being sufficiently juicy to satisfy the legendary detective. That’s pretty good reasoning, unless the variety of apple he bought was simply dry and woody. Kind of like Red Delicious apples in the United States. They started out decades ago both red and delicious. After years of selective breeding, they are now red and wooden.
At least they look pretty.
On the way back with the bag of apples, Kimihiko encountered Alicia sleeping in a box in the middle of the sidewalk. Why was she there? She didn’t know because she had amnesia. Why didn’t he call the police and let them handle it? Well, he intended to, but then it started raining, and apparently the police are inaccessible in the rain.
So, what was Alicia doing sleeping in a box in the middle of the sidewalk? I am afraid we might never find out… Capture from the Funimation stream.
It’s a strange world, and I don’t understand all of its rules.
But being a kind-hearted soul, Kimihiko offered her an apple, because she seemed hungry. Unfortunately for him, she ate all the apples. Apparently, rain makes not only the police, but the market inaccessible, because Kimihiko elected to return to the legendary detective without apples.
Delivery: Beware Friends Not Bearing Gifts
This turned out to be a mistake. The reason this was a mistake is that Siesta, who has before now shown precisely zero interest in domestic skills, wheeled herself, injured leg and all, to the kitchen counter. There, she began making the crust for an apple pie.
By that, I mean she sat in her wheelchair and mixed batter. She used a whisk, and she hummed happily. Of all the activities I might have expected to see from Siesta in this series, playing housewife was not at the bottom of the list, because it wasn’t even on the list.
Kimihiko’s arrival immediately made her angry, for two reasons. First, he arrived without apples. Honestly, I’m with Siesta here. She went out of her way to reward his gesture, and then he returned without the one thing he’d gone out to get.
I’m not sure, but I don’t think we’ve seen Siesta surprised before. Capture from the Funimation stream.
Second — and this actually seemed to be the clincher — he bought a loli home with him. She was even wrapped only in a towel when he introduced Alicia to Siesta. Personally, I thought that was bad form. He should have asked Siesta to help Alicia dry off. I mean, seriously, the dude should know better.
“You’d better believe you’ll never see me in an apron again, Kimi,” Siesta said angrily (18:56).
Kimihiko should have dropped the loli off at the police station before purchasing more apples. Now, he paid the price. He needs to get his priorities straight!
