The Eminence in Shadow Episode 15 – Quick Summary
In The Eminence in Shadow Episode 15, “The Strongest Weakest Man,” Cid had a new goal: enter the Bushin Festival as a laughable underdog. Then, amaze the crowd bit by bit until he wins it all! Wearing a disguise, of course, because of the “in Shadow” clause of his personality. What’s Cid’s plan? How will Gamma help him? And what did Rose say was the name of her fiancé?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.
Favorite Quote from The Eminence in Shadow Episode 15
For the briefest of instants, I thought the guy might be a little humble. That’s on me. Capture from the HIDIVE stream.
I wondered what happened to Gilderoy Lockhart after he finished his gig at Hogwarts. Not within the Harry Potter story, of course; I know what happened there. But in this show, it looks like he got cast as Goldy Gilded. Good for him. A guy’s got to work, right?
And yes, I still read those books, though it’s getting harder because their author has obviously gone insane. I blame the buckets of cash her books earned. It makes me happy – happy, I say! – that my books don’t sell anywhere near the Harry Potter series. Yes. Happy. Insanely so.
You’re here for the favorite quote, aren’t you? Well, here it is. Goldy Gilded introduced himself, and Cid’s friend Hyoro Gali immediately switched to fan-boy mode. Cid didn’t know who the guy was, so Hyoro told him (17:45): “He’s Goldy Gilded the Unbeaten Legend!”
With a dismissive gesture, Goldy Gilded said, “Please, that nickname embarrasses me. Call me Goldy Gilded, the Ever-Victorious Golden Dragon.”
Somehow, that doesn’t seem less embarrassing!
Favorite Moment from The Eminence in Shadow Episode 15
Rose almost seemed surprised Cid expressed faith in her. Capture from the HIDIVE stream.
Setup: Rose is a Good Person
I like Rose. Not nearly as much as I like Beta, or Alpha, or Alexia, or… I’m not giving you the right impression. So I’ll start again.
I like Rose. She’s an accomplished warrior, and she’s the class president. That alone should tell you something – this is anime, and in terms of power, class presidents are right up there with minor deities. If this weren’t Cid’s story, and Alpha didn’t surround him with the human equivalent of carrier battle group, Rose might be among the most powerful characters in the show.
If this show weren’t packaged with the ridiculously powerful members of Shadow Garden, Rose would be considered an upper echelon fighter. Capture from the HIDIVE stream.
She’s also an idealistic, kind human being. She doesn’t have Alexia’s guile or (remembering how she reacted to Cid turning her down) propensity to violence. She’s trying to make her way in a world that would rather she shut up, look pretty, and marry Perv Asshat.
I’m still laughing at that name.
She’s naive, but she knows the value of appearance. So, she projects strength and calm. But in my favorite moment, she let the facade slip, just a little.
Delivery: A Warrior Before Battle
As Cid munched on a sandwich, she talked about her predicament. She said she was about to go meet her fiancé, Mr. Asshat. She asserted that she believed in her ideals and would never betray them. That wasn’t all; she confided that she might have to make decisions that would outwardly constitute betrayal; but her resolve remained adamant.
“Cid,” she said, looking at him (16:08), “Would you keep believing in me, come what may?”
It wasn’t a moment of weakness. She seemed like a warrior, about to go into battle, who knew that her decision had a price. At that moment, she wanted to hear someone she respected, namely Cid, say he would back her.
And what did Cid do?
He said, “Okay. I will.”
She didn’t make a huge fuss about it, but Cid’s support meant a lot to her. Capture from the HIDIVE stream.
And you know what? I believe him. I think he’s going to believe in her. It might be in his own special way, but, but I think he’s on her side. And I have a feeling it’s going to have a major impact on what’s coming. As if I couldn’t get more excited to see the next episode…

According to Google translate, Pervy Asshat translates into 変態尻帽子. Maybe Hentai shiri bōshi? I wonder what the original really was.
I’ve listened several times, and my ears just can’t catch it. I talked to a UN translator once, and she told me that it’s hard for Westerners who haven’t studied Asian languages to even hear some of the notes and inflections — and I believe her! I can catch an occasional word, but most of the time, I’m furiously reading subs.
We’re soon to catch up to the beginning of the show, the scene atop that clock tower with Cid and the Seven Shadows.
I have to feel a bit sorry for the women around Cid. Alpha and the others may understand that he’s not getting with any of them, though they remain devoted to him, but Alexia is still trying even after she got dumped, Sherry… well ’nuff said, it looks like another one is becoming fascinated by his alter ego of a dead man, and Rose is completely investing emotionally in something she has no way of realizing is completely unrequited. I can only speculate what happened with her fiance – seriously? they went with Perv Asshat as his name? – at the end of the episode.
I’d forgotten about that scene — you’re right, we haven’t that in “real time” yet.
That’s a little sad to think about. I think this season is only 20 episodes. I’m really not ready for this to end!
I feel sorry for them, too. I think Alpha, Beta, and Shadow Garden get him. Alpha flirts from time to time to make sure he hasn’t changed his mind, but they know how he is. But Alexi, Sherry, Rose, and whoever else comes along? Yeah, I feel bad for them, too!
And that name — LOL!
