The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Episode 24 – Quick Summary

In The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Episode 24, “Mask of Falsehood,” Shadow Garden, led by Alpha, opened another front in their battle against the Cult. At first, they made good progress. But then another player entered the game – a player they did not expect. Who is this man? What kind of threat does he represent? And wasn’t Delta’s reunion with her brother just the sweetest thing?

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Episode 24: Delta was in peak form

Well, someone certainly seems to be enjoying themselves! Capture from the HIDIVE stream.

Cid’s under the streets, checking out a box of paper cash. He can do so in peace because Delta’s hunting. To be more precise: Delta said she’s hunting. Cid said she’s on a murderous rampage. Massacre. Whatever. She’s leaving a pile of dead bodies in her wake.

Cid told himself he should be happy she’s letting him search for riches in peace. But Cid can’t just say anything normally. He had to amp it up. He had to embellish it. So, he said (19:14), “Delta is fundamentally incapable of following the command, ’stay.’”

Only Cid could dismiss the astonishing bloodbath just behind him as a concern about obedience. Though he didn’t seem mad at all!

Favorite Moment from The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Episode 24

The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Episode 24: Cid's words drove Yukime to new heights of understanding

Too bad the screen’s so dark – her expression conveyed a contagious level of enthusiasm! Capture from the HIDIVE stream.

Setup: Delta Is So Frisky!

Delta is my new favorite member of Shadow Garden. This isn’t anything profound. It’s a purely shallow reaction, and I recognize it as such. But. Damn.

On a more professional note, I did enjoy learning more about Delta’s background. We got to meet her brother for all of ten seconds. We learned that her people prize strength above all else. Also, we learned that she wants to have a hundred babies with Cid. She seemed so nonchalant about it, too!

The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Episode 24: Delta was upside down.

Delta was in high spirits this episode! Capture from the HIDIVE stream.

I can’t believe Cid has decided to take on Shadow Garden. At least, that’s how I’m interpreting it. I’m pretty sure he sees it as trying to rein in the impact his cosplaying friends are having on the world. But whatever the reason, of all the things I thought might happen, that was absolutely not one of them. I really like it when a show can surprise me like this!

Want to know another surprise? My favorite moment – or more precisely, what it demonstrated was possible. Cid, as the “Super Elite Secret Agent,” participated in a clandestine meeting with Yukime in a train car. Cid wanted to build the case for printing counterfeit bills. He explained concepts like credit and the difference between hard currency, with innate value, and paper money. She scoffed. She thought counterfeiting at any kind of scale would be detected. When she said how little money they would make before the economy collapsed, he confronted her with (14:43), “Is that really what you think?”

Delivery: Financial Matters Made Exciting!

Yukime was shocked. She looked at the money in her hands as if reappraising. His words forced her mind into new directions. Yukime traced the economic implications forward – from consumer loss of confidence to a run on the bank. Her conclusion? That Cid had planned that all along. That he could not possibly have been so shallow as to think counterfeiting alone would be profitable – that he was forward-thinking enough to force an economic collapse and profit from that!

“The discovery of the counterfeiting was already integrated into the plan,” she said (15:12). “No, the discovery was the plan! When the people start doubting the value of the paper, they’ll make a run on the bank to exchange it for gold! If we’re one step ahead of the game, we can monopolize the profits!”

The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Episode 24: Cid was bummed but had to maintain his facade

Cid seemed a little bummed! Capture from the HIDIVE stream.

What shocked me about this is that I used to work in the financial industry. Even then, I found the material dull. I was happy automating it, but the concepts themselves struck me as arid. But in the hands of The Eminence in Shadow? It’s compelling stuff! How Cid accidentally drove Yukime to new levels of understanding? Also compelling stuff! Between that and Delta, this episode was just a blast to watch.

What did you think of Alpha and her team going on a rampage at the beginning? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

  1. I’ve been a big fan of Delta since we met her and this episode just confirmed it. I love the way she sits on Cid’s shoulder and flops around because she can’t sit still. She has a wicked enthusiasm to everything she does too, and their relationship is brilliantly odd.

I loved the scene with Yukime too. Poor Cid being told that he couldn’t run a counterfeit money scheme again. He was so disappointed!

    1. I find Delta’s energy really appealing. She’s so completely non-self-conscious. She does does what she does because she wants to do it.

And poor Cid! I almost felt sorry for the guy. But he gets points for knowing when to shut up to maintain the illusion!

  2. CId has his almighty power, and he has his consistently accidental rizz, and I am not sure which one of these is more powerful and dangerous. The Shadow Garden girls – highlighted in this episode by Delta wanting a hundred of his babies – more than one princess, various others… and now Yukime, who has probably not encountered many men, ever, whose mere presence can make her feel… overwhelmed.
