The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Episode 28 – Quick Summary
In The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Episode 28, “The Dragon’s Tears,” Cid had departed to let the women of Shadow Garden cool down – though they weren’t angry with him to start with. While he was gone, Hyoro Gali and Jaga Imo tried to visit Cid. Since he didn’t answer, they entered his room – and found ultra exclusive hot springs tickets. And the tickets were a gift to Cid from Mitsugoshi. How will Shadow Garden react when they discover the tickets they had intended for Cid are in the hands of not-Cids? Will Hyoro and Jaga survive the discovery?

Nu was seriously displeased with Hyoro and Jaga. Capture from the HIDIVE stream.
Hyoro and Jaga made a huge mistake. Brandishing the very rare tickets they’d stolen from Cid, they began asking random women to go to the hot springs with them. The problem wasn’t their asking – well, it was. I mean, you know Hyoro and Jaga. But in this case, the real problem is that they asked within sight of Nu.
Saying she wasn’t pleased would be an understatement. She took the two into custody and began interrogating them – but not before slamming down an entire glass of wine. She demanded to know how they obtained such tickets.
Of course, they didn’t want to tell Nu they’d stolen the tickets from Cid’s room. So they lied. They said Cid gave them the tickets. Not content with a mere lie, they embellished it, saying that Cid encouraged them to ask the women from Mitsugoshi to go with then. Nu immediately went into “Now what is Shadow trying to tell us” mode.
In a voice that clearly told them the answer she expected, she asked if Cid would go along on this “date.”
Hyoro fell all over himself to say yes in various, stuttering ways. Jaga said (03:04), “He’s speaking to my heart right now, telling me so!”
They’re lucky Nu had distracted herself with conjecture. She clearly wasn’t too pleased with those two!
Favorite Moment from The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Episode 28
The show didn’t strictly need to go the extra mile with the shadow play and the audience clapping. But I was glad to see it did! Capture from the HIDIVE stream.
Setup: A Cid-less Episode
For the record, I’m still pissed off at Cid. I don’t know how much he knows; I don’t know how much he knows he knows; but I know that it’s not enough. Dude’s got to come to terms with who he is and treat the women of Shadow Garden a lot better.
On a jocular level, look at the damage Cid’s doing by not establishing a clear order of preference within the harem. Alpha damn near skewered Nu for asserting herself! For the sake of peace, Cid needs to get his act together.
For my favorite moment, I almost chose Seven Shadows Rock-Paper-Sissors (08:08), for sheer surprise factor alone. It really made me laugh! But I’m going to go with an example of why I still like this series, even though Cid annoys me. It’s because the show goes the extra mile to make something entertaining.
For a minute there, I thought things were going to get violent. Capture from the HIDIVE stream.
While the women folks were in their section of the hot springs, Zeta tried to think through why Cid had set this up (he hadn’t). Her mind kept returning the legend of the Dragon’s Tears. Suddenly, as we often see in anime series, we got a shadow play of the legend behind the Dragon’s Tears. At first I thought, “Oh, that’s funny. Using a shadow play to educate Shadow Garden. Clever!”
Delivery: A Well Presented Shadow Play
The act went on, and at first, I thought it was Zeta narrating. Then I realized it wasn’t. The scenery changed; the narrator spoke of the friendship between the princess and the dragon. Then, war came. The white light went red.
The camera pulled back, and there was Lambda narrating (14:59). She even read from a script! Three other elves from Shadow Garden’s ranks held up the forms to make the shadows. Where did the props and script come from? Who knows. But it made me laugh. The Eminence in Shadow wasn’t content with a mere stylized info-dump. They had to spice it up.
They all looked like they took their jobs seriously! Capture from the HIDIVE stream.
My favorite part came at the end. The camera pulled back to show Beta and Zeta applauding the performance. “That was a pretty good performance, Lambda,” Beta said (16:03).
Yeah, it was a filler episode. According to the Reddit thread (see below), it’s an anime original. But the tone and the characters matched what had come before, and the humor was on point. If this is what an Eminence in Shadow filler episode is like, I wouldn’t mind seeing another. Next season. Which I hope we get despite the issues I have with Cid.
What did you think of Delta’s insistence she go on the trip? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

Skel and Po are lucky to overhype Cid to the girls otherwise there’s no way they’ll survive the brutal demise Shadow Garden will inflict onto them.
For real. They almost didn’t survive the emotional force of Nu’s temper!
