The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3 Episode 8 – Quick Summary
In The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3 Episode 8, “Steeplechase Part IV,” the time had almost come for the steeplechase event – the event that would put Miyuki and her friends in harm’s way. Of course, that’s something Tatsuya was not about to let happen. Armed with new, top-of-the-line battle armor and Pixie’s insights, Tatsuya decided to take on all of the parasite dolls on his own. What he didn’t know was that there were four of them that were special types. Do they stand a chance against him? Or will their coordinated teamwork cause trouble even for Tatsuya?

Kinda rough on Fumiya for his dad to talk like that right in front of him! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
There’s a very interesting post credits scene starting at 19:57. In it, Mitsugu Kuroba makes mention of the “Yotsubas’ sins” (20:52). Maybe this is implicit from one of the previous seasons or OVAs, but I didn’t know what he was talking about. There’s a great discussion here.
Be careful with that link. It contains spoilers. But the short version is that Mitsugu thinks the Yotsubas sinned when they created the ridiculously overpowered Tatsuya.
Near the end, Mitsugu went to confront Gongjin Zhou. Apparently, Mitsugu is quite powerful; he thought he had Gongjin dead to rights. But nope. Gongjin invoked some kind of powerful magic and snatched Mitsugu’s right arm. Looked painful, too.
Tatsuya and Mitsugu’s son Fumiya showed up. I’ll give Mitsugu props – he refused to let the sin named Tatsuya heal him, because he didn’t want to be indebted to him.
But Tatsuya is a practical man who backs his friends. As he aimed his CAD pistol at Mitsugu, he said (22:55), “It may displease you… but leaving you in that state would only make Fumiya and Ayako sad.”
I like scenes where Tatsuya is good to his friends. He might act like he has no emotions; but he still has convictions. And at times like that, those convictions sure look like affection!
Favorite Moment from The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3 Episode 8
Tatsuya had to exert effort! But he gratefully accepted Pixie’s help! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Remember how the military detected that someone was going after the dolls? How they recognized that the infiltrator (who we knew was Tatsuya) had some skills? It was absolutely adorable how they said (03:00), “Tell them that they’re permitted to fire back but not to end up killing him.” “Yes, sir. I will order them not to inflict any fatal wounds on him.”
Then, moments later, when they saw what Tatsuya was capable of doing, they looked a bit shocked (05:33). I can’t blame them. Even though we know Tatsuya had to work at it – it wasn’t exactly a cake walk – he still handily dispatched their parasite dolls.
My favorite moment was shortly after Pixie began telling Tatsuya how to dodge. He realized, and she confirmed, that Pixie could hear their thoughts. So she began relaying their coordinating communications to Tatsuya.
The Prime Four in particular made Tatsuya work for it. But not for long. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
As the military personnel watched, they expressed shock that all of a sudden, none of their Prime Four parasite dolls’ attacks could hit Tatsuya. He dropped one, then another, until only two remained. As the officers muttered insightful phrases like “That’s ridiculous,” Tatsuya, with Pixies’s help, launched an aerial attack to drop the next to last parasite doll (12:21). The last tried to strike from behind (12:24). Tatsuya dodged the attack, disarmed them, and put their parasite into hibernation so it wouldn’t escape and infect anyone else (12:26).
It was purely an action sequence. Nothing particularly deep. But seeing Tatsuya have to respond to pressure – having to rely on Pixie’s help – was fun to watch. It was also cool how he didn’t forget who helped him. “I owe you one, Pixie,” he told her (12:39).
What did you think of Miyuki leaving her team mired in traps – after they tried to beat her to the finish line? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

Is this the first time he’s ever met something that gave him real difficulty? If he didn’t have Pixie to advise him, he’d be in a world of trouble.
I can’t think of a time when he struggled harder. He had to think carefully about Angelina’s attacks, but once he figured out what she was doing, he didn’t have any trouble.
It was great seeing Pixie in action! She really saved Tatsuya’s bacon in this episode.
