The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 10 – Quick Summary

In The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 10, “The Royal Succession of Resignation and Fury,” Orphans II Palletia and Sylphine Maise Palletia had to deal with the after effects of Algard’s treachery. Specifically, they needed someone to step up to be successor to the throne. And that someone was Anis. How will Euphie and Lainie react? Is there really a path forward where Anis could be queen – and at all happy about it?

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Favorite Ilia Quote from The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 10

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 10: Ilia shared her wisdom with Euphie

Ilia understood the situation more clearly than Euphie – and was willing to share! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Emotions have weight; decisions exact a toll. This show makes its character’s feelings and decisions feel real and weighty. It’s making the show real in a visceral way.

Euphie struggled to reconcile her feelings for Anis with her sense of responsibility towards Anis and the kingdom. At first, she acted as a true product of her upbringing: she vowed to support Anis as her queen. Then Ilia decided she would put the matter into perspective. She waited for the right opportunity to talk to Euphie.

Euphie, holding the cup of tea that Ilia had just given her, tried to rationalize Anis as queen. She tried to say that Anis would bring the commoners and nobility together. As if knowing her reasoning was hollow, she asked Ilia what she thought.

After saying that Anis would be a “benevolent ruler,” she said Anis and the crown would not be a good fit.

She said (12:11), “Having power and being forced to use it are not the same. If the princess becomes queen, she won’t be able to go into town anymore, will she?”

In two sentences, she provided the philosophical framework and its practical application. Succinct and utterly, utterly correct. Just what I’ve come to expect from Ilia.

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 10: Euphie is determined to help Anis

Euphie looked into the Void. I’m not sure, but I think the Void might have blinked. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Setup: Lots of Quality Tilty Expressions

If you’re a fan of Tilty, then I think this episode was a treat! We got a lot of good exasperated and furious Tilty expressions. Not only that, the episode treated us to several of her quick-witted, piercing observations and not-so-subtle advice.

Though it wasn’t my favorite moment, I want to draw attention to Euphie deciding to go to Tilty for just such advice. She trusted Tilty to not only see things how they actually were, but to impart that knowledge. We all need a friend like Tilty. Expressions and all.

Come to think of it, most of the main cast consists of trustworthy, responsible people who would be great allies. That must be another reason I like this show so much.

Setup: Euphie Wrestles with the Big Picture

Euphie’s is learning something that I did years ago. Though I understand the need, and though I would not change my own fate, I feel bad for her. Because this is going to hurt like hell.

I’ve talked about Queen’s Under Pressure before. The line “it’s the terror of knowing what this world is about” really spoke to me. I think most of us finally figure out how the world works. I mean, really works. Any sane individual would react with terror. Some of us promptly forget about it and go on about our lives, and I’m not going to judge anyone for doing that. That’s because I understand the cost of not doing that.

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 10: This might be Euphie's last carefree smile

For a brief instant, Euphie thought Anis becoming queen might work out. This might be her last innocent and happy smile for a while. She’s heading for turbulent waters. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream

Because I’ve forced myself to see clearly, and to understand what I see. To the extent possible.

For me, it happened when I was acting as a project manager for a development project. Managing a project involves understanding predecessors and successors. That is to say, understanding how one thing has to trigger another. Somehow, that concept got loose in the theological and political parts of my brain, and it all clicked.

I’m not saying my understanding is perfect. But I’m saying in an instant, everything I thought I understood flipped. It wasn’t upside down. It wasn’t just along one axis, either. But in a very short period of time, I understood how the world worked. And suddenly, cynicism seemed optimistic.

Euphie gave me a flashback in this episode.

Delivery: Euphie Understands the World

Remember when she went to ask her father, Grantz Magenta, for advice? She shocked him. She shocked him because she demonstrated she understood the situation as well as he did. I suspect he thought his daughter might have erred on the side of her heart. But she spelled out in clear terms that for the good of the kingdom, Anis had to become queen. All of her feelings, all of Anis’s feeling, meant nothing against that.

But… But at the exact same time, Euphie understood something else, too. Slamming her palms onto her dad’s desk, she said (17:25), “But still… I don’t want to accept it as just the ways things must be!”

Bang. In that instant, I knew she understood. She understood the world. She saw the predecessors and successors. Euphie knew how it all worked. And that knowledge meant absolutely, positively nothing. Not in terms of what was really important.

“I just… love her,” Euphie said (17:41).

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 10: Euphie loves Anis; and that's a problem for duty

It’s tough seeing Euphie realize that love isn’t always a happy thing. Sometimes its expression in space/time is anything but happy. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Yes, the kingdom matters. And yes, Euphie loves Anis. As intelligent as Euphie is, as much as she has earned the title of genius, she can’t think her way out of that problem. Understanding and reason are dangerous, brutal tools. Seeing clearly hurts. Every day. Some days, every breath. Euphie’s learning that, and it’s going to hurt. I just hope she doesn’t despair.

Because here’s something I even have to remind myself: my understanding right now isn’t final. I don’t know everything. Nor should I assume that my current inability is final, either. I hope Euphie remembers that as she considers a spiritual contract.

  1. Heh, remembering my post from two weeks ago is really fun. I didn’t think they’d kill Algard; I was right, but for the wrong reasons. I didn’t think Anis would be in the running for Queen; I was wrong, but if had been wrong about Algard not being killed, my reasoning might have made sense. In any case, the show went exactly in the direction I didn’t think it would.

Though I did also say two things: that I expect the show to go more into the direction of magic, and that we’d need a new character at the very least. And that’s exactly what happened at the end of the show, with them bringing up spirits and introducing a spirit contractor; something I could have expected but didn’t.

I’m always sort of half right and half wrong about the show, but it’s clear the show knows what it’s doing, so it’s just so much fun to follow the plot. (I’m not normally a plot guy; it’s usually secondary. Well, to be honest, it’s still secondary to the characters which are all great, but plot’s more fun here for me than in other shows.)

I do now think that the I’ll be feeling the show leans more towards magic than politics, but who knows at that point?

I’m having fun with this show, in case you couldn’t tell.

    1. “I’m having fun with this show, in case you couldn’t tell.”

      I got that impression!

The show has given us a lot more character, plot, and theme depth than I hoped for. We’ve had several seasons where that’s happened. Last season was Lycoris Recoil.
