The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 4 – Quick Summary
In The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 4, “The Princess and the Lost Child Announce Their Decision,” the adventurers we had met back in episode 1 made a terrifying discovery: a dragon was loose in the kingdom! The king assembled his advisors to look into the problem. A dragon had not attacked the kingdom in their lifetimes – will they have any idea of how to defend against it? Isn’t there anyone in the kingdom who might have an idea of how to attack such a terrible beast? Anyone at all?

Favorite Ilia Quote from The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 4
This is one observant maid. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I gave up. I just renamed this section Favorite Ilia Quote of the Episode because for the fourth time in a row, she’s the source of the quote. And I’m okay with that. I think we’re in very capable hands.
It’s clear to Anisphia and it’s clear to Ilia that Euphyllia is still struggling. There is at least one source of quiet joy, though. As Euphyllia remembered how Anisphia had held her hand, she came upon Ilia who had a load of laundry. Feeling listless, Euphie (I might as well use the diminutive – everyone in the story is!) followed her.
After a few moments of silence, Ilia proved she has a wit sharp enough to go up against Anis. She also has a compassionate streak.
“Do you find it difficult to voluntarily do things outside your given role?” she asked Euphie (11:22).
Judging by Euphie’s expression, the maid knew what she was talking about! Not only was the quote itself my favorite, but it set the stage for a great bit of backstory for Ilia! It’s a two-fer!
Favorite Moment from The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 4
The looks these two give each other challenge my cynicism about the world! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: A Good Story Can Challenge my Preconceptions
I don’t like love stories. The exceptions are Toradora and Lycoris Recoil. And yes, I know that it’s debatable if the second one is actually a love story. I’ll respect your perspective whether you agree or not!
But in general, I don’t like them. I don’t have anything against them. They just don’t speak to me. But this series is showing me that Toradora might have some competition. And it’s all because of scenes like my favorite in this episode.
The show has done an emotionally satisfying job of conveying Euphie’s depression. Everything she built her life around is gone. From the time when she was a young girl, her mission had been to become Algard’s queen. She dedicated her life to learning how to be the best queen she could. Now, that’s all gone. And with it, the structure of her life.
Shots like this drove home just how bereft of purpose Euphie felt. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Anis had insisted Euphie lay down and try to get some rest. The Marauder Princess (what a cool title!) busied herself closing the drapes. As she did so, she kept up a non-stop, high-energy monologue that brought a smile to Euphie’s face.
At the same time, she sheer energy of that monologue seemed to drain her. She descended deeper into depression. She even lacked the energy to clench her jaw. Even as she muttered that she was empty, Anis came to her and took her hands.
Euphie turned away, maybe unable to bear the emotional brilliance of Anis’ concern. She said she felt envious, because Anis seemed to have everything. This startled the Princess, who clearly doesn’t see herself that way.
“What shall I do from here on?” Euphie asked on the verge of desperation (06:41).
Delivery: The Quality of Anis’s Character Came Through
Anis, very reasonably from the perspective of a woman who has made a life of pursuing her thoughts and dreams, suggested Euphie do the same.
But Euphie had no mental framework for that. Her upbringing had not cultivated independent thought. She asked what she should do if she didn’t know what she should do. That, to me, was tragic. Here’s this intelligent, highly capable young woman, crumbling under the weight of even the potential for self direction.
Reaching out to grasp Anis’s sleeve with two fingers, in a quivering voice, Euphie said (06:57), “I want you to give me an order.” She said that if Anis gave her an order, she could follow it.
She knew she wanted to move forward; she didn’t know how. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
In that moment, Euphie was utterly vulnerable. She would have grasped any order Anis gave and would have tried to make it her own. What makes me think this love story might join Toradora is how Anis responded.
Lightly touching Euphie’s hand, Anis gently shook her head and said (07:09), “Euphie, If you don’t know what you want, or what you should want, we can take our time looking for it together.”
The tone of Anis’s voice conveyed such an affectionate warmth and unconditional support that I actually stopped breathing. Of course, I started again, which you’ve probably figured out. But I felt like it was one of those timeless, loving moments that felt profoundly right. In that instant, Anis proved just how much she really cared for Euphie. Moments like that are why this show leaves me with such an optimistic view of the world – even if only for a few minutes!
What did you think of Anis accidentally stealing Algard’s thunder? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to share in the comments!

I have to laugh. The prince comes in all high and mighty as he whines about how everyone prefers his sister (for obvious reasons) and by the time he finishes his self-centered whinging, they get word that the sister he’s jealous of and the girl he cast aside have already taken off to take care of the problem. Something tells me his fragile ego is about to take a serious blow.
I still feel a little sorry for the prince, but man, he is inflicting wound after wound on himself. I want to tell him that I get it; he’s jealous of his sister. But doesn’t give him a free pass!
I can’t wait to see how he reacts to the story of what happened with the dragon. Which is in episode 5, so I won’t talk about it here! But I really want to!
Man, Toradora was good…can’t believe it’s been…15 years!?!
The scary thing is (well, _one_ of the scary things) is that it seems like yesterday.
On a brighter note: Toradora has aged very well!
