The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 5 – Quick Summary
In The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 5, “A Magic Medicine and a Magic Sword Subjugate a Magic Dragon,” Anis felt absolutely determined that she had to take on the dragon assaulting her kingdom. What will Euphie do? Does she have enough confidence in herself – or Anis – to go into the field? And if she does, what can she accomplish against such a terrible foe – even with Anis’s help?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.
Favorite Quote from The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 5
Well, she looks sane. But I’m only mostly convinced. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
My only complaint about this episode is that it broke Ilia’s quote streak! She had no major part in this episode. And seriously, that’s my only complaint. And it’s half-hearted.
The kingdom had sent a contingent of knights to the front lines. They knew they could not withstand the dragon itself. But they hoped to deflect or destroy the stampeding monsters.
After making a fantastic entrance by dropping several hundred meters from her broom and slicing an enormous monster in half, Anis announced that since she was the only flying asset that the kingdom had, she would engage the dragon.
The knight commander recoiled and said (05:27), “Are you serious? Rather… are you sane?!”
Gotta say – he gets credit for saying it out loud!
Maybe next week we can get an Ilia quote.
Favorite Moment from The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 5
I really like her determination and drive. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: The Best Laid Plans
I spent 80% of the episode thinking, “Oh! That’s my favorite scene!” The other 20% I spent asking myself, “How am I going to pick a favorite scene?”
Do I go with lovely and emotionally warm scenes? There were several. Do I go with a purely action scene, like Anis flying down from the sky yelling “Move it! Move it! Move it!”? I think I’ll go with a scene that combined both of those scenarios and wrapped them in the kind of animation I haven’t seen since Princess Connect! Re: Dive Season 2 Episode 11.
Because animation like that makes everything better.
Together, combining their strengths, Anis and Euphie managed to hack off one of the dragon’s wings. They had hoped such a wound would diminish its power. They landed. Battered, exhausted, they crept towards the monster. When the cloud of dust cleared, they realized something that froze them both in their tracks.
Realizing they could not retreat had to be hard to take. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
The dragon wasn’t weaker. Instead, it was very, very pissed off. And clearly, it was going to explain what that meant to them.
The threat was so severe that even Anis, who I doubt has backed away from anything in her life, was about to take Euphie’s advice and retreat. Except, when she turned to look behind her, she saw that the main body of knights were fighting monsters – right in the middle of what would be the blast zone.
That moment sold how much danger they were in. The voice actors (Anis’s Sayaka Senbongi and Euphie’s Manaka Iwami) sounded exhausted and terrified and resolute, all at once. Deciding she’d rather face death than abandon the knights, Anis stepped forward and drew back her sword.

Then two extremely cool things happened.
First, Anis uttered the words that linked her to a long, venerable tradition of fighting anime (18:28): “Mana Blade… Release Limiter!” Because of course, what we’ve seen until now could not possible contain the awesomeness that is Anis.
Second, Euphie saw the toll the effort took on Anis, who had begun to cough up blood. Inspired by Anis’s example, Euphie’s face set in a determined mask, she placed her hands on Anis’s back.
“Show me, then,” she said (18:58). “I’ll protect you. I’ll be watching!”
So the two of them stood before the dragon’s enormous and terrifying mana attack, which hurtled towards them. With a cry, Anis met it with her blade. Euphie’s strength helped her take the strike and push back. For a moment, the mass of mana resisted Anis’s blade. Screaming “The impossible is meant to be made possible,” (19:36) she forced the blade through the attack. She cleaved not only the mana, but the dragon itself.
Anis’s drive, determination, and skill in creating her Mana Blade made quite the statement in this episode. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I think this might end up my second favorite dragon battle, right after the one in Gate episode 17. It had everything you could ask for: fidelity with the tradition of fighting anime before it; willingness to self-sacrifice in the face of near certain death; and best of all, the power of the affection between Anis and Euphie. This checked pretty much every box!
I said earlier that I only had one complaint about this episode. I actually had two. This episode hit about as hard as the latter episodes of Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2. How does it top that? To be honest, I’m really looking forward to finding out!
What did you think of the dance scene with Anis and Euphie at the end? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

How will it top this? I don’t know. I don’t know if it will, or can. In fact, if this was the last of a five-episode series, I’d be pretty satisfied!
Everything after this is house money.
