The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 9 – Quick Summary
In The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 9, “The Sister and Brother, and for Whom the Crown Is Intended,” Algard was absolutely determined to fight his sister Anis. She felt just as determined to forcibly adjust his view of the world. And all the while, Euphie and Ilia fought to keep Lainie alive. Algard won’t or can’t listen to Anis. She is as stubborn as he is. Is there really only one way this battle can end?

Ilia wanted to be the one to save Lainie. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
You’re going to suspect me of ulterior motives when I tell you which of Ilia’s quotes is my favorite this week. But I assure you: it’s not what you think. Unless you think I choose it for its dramatic intimacy. In which case, you’re right.
Euphie’s healing power seemed to only keep Lainie from dying. Ilia also seemed to be making no headway.
Finally, in a broken voice, Lainie suggested that if she had some magic blood, she might be able to heal herself – being a vampire and all. Euphie made ready to slice open her own arm, or maybe her wrist.
But no! Ilia wouldn’t have it. Still unsteady herself, Ilia bit down on her lower lip. Then, leaning in close to Lainie, she said (06:42), “Pardon me”
She kissed Lainie to give her the blood she needed to save her life. After a moment, Lainie had recovered enough strength to embrace the maid.
Despite the moment’s desperation, despite both of them being covered in blood, Ilia still had the sensibility to say, “Pardon me.” The emotional and dramatic intimacy really appealed to me.
Favorite Moment from The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Episode 9
Euphie made her own choice, based on her perspective of the world. And her dedication to Anis. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Good Characters Can Change Minds
Last week, I basically equated Algard to a rabid dog. If you’ve ever seen Old Yeller, you know where I was going with that. Now, I’m not saying I was wrong. I’m not saying I can forgive Algard for what he did to Lainie, and I’m glad she decided not to forgive him, either. But I’ll give MagiRevo credit. I no longer want to invoke the Old Yeller Clause on him.
Though I think Euphie let him off easy with a slap.
I want to give the series credit: while it didn’t make me like Algard, it made me understand him. It left me with the sense that he and Anis shared a vision of the end result. His vision was as saturated with despair as hers was with hope. By the end of their confrontation, I could not honestly say which view was more realistic.
By the end of their fight, I’m not sure which of them had a more realistic view. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
My favorite moment, though, wasn’t part of that fight. Though I will say that Diomedéa lavished artistry in that battle. No, my favorite moment belongs to Euphie.
She’s been on quite a journey, hasn’t she? We saw her trying to be the perfect queen-to-be. We saw her bereft of purpose; and we saw Anis act to not force an external purpose on her, but to give her time to realize her own.
Delivery: Euphie’s Choice
It would have been really easy for Euphie to join the fight on Anis’s side. In fact, seeing how her dragon powers drained her, I began to suspect that’s what would happen. Then Anis summoned her greatest strike, and she bore down on Algard. Only to see him smiling, accepting his own death with calm acceptance.
I don’t know if Anis could have stopped. Because at that instant, Euphie streaked in and knocked Anis to the side (10:01). She then proceeded to give Anis quite the tongue lashing.
“What good does it do for you two to try to kill each other?” she sobbed. Just in case she had not made her point, she said, “You’re both idiots!”
Euphie has been through so much in such a short period of time, I don’t know how she’s keeping herself together! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
You know you love someone when you’re prepared to get in their way, to save their life, even though you know they might hate you for it. That’s the choice Euphie made, by herself. The moment worked so well for me because of Euphie’s arc to this point. Also, the back and forth between Anis and Algard was so intense that, coupled with the the previous episode, I could see Anis killing Algard. The stakes felt real all around, and that heightened Euphie’s decision’s impact.
What did you think of Algard’s exile? What were your favorite moments in the episode? Feel free to share in the comments!

The quick mention of the two nobles who goaded Algard on and tried to bring Anis down, “They were granted death.” …I suppose that’s one way to put it.
Algard struck me as being pretty all over the place, mentally speaking. He’s going for this, he’s going for that, he’s doing terrible things, he’s accepting his death… it was like an insane version of a tantruming child, not really knowing what they want but still breaking everything to get it.
I think it’s like Momomanamu said. Algard had some mental challenges. I like how you characterized it as a tantrum. Looking back at the fight, he certainly acted like that! Whereas Anis had a consistent, escalating approach. Though even she got caught up in the moment.
I still wonder what would have happened had Euphie not stepped in.
I wonder what the story’s going to do with Algard now? Who’s going to take over the role of main villain? Thought we are near the end of the first season. Which is sad to consider!
This was definitely a really intense episode. I’m glad that Euphie managed to stop the fight and no one actually died during this whole ordeal. As for how I feel about Al’s punishment, and this might not even be an option in a fantasy world, but I feel like the prince needed therapy more than banishment. His skewed reasoning and jumps in logic aren’t exactly what a healthy/emotionally balanced person would think. For a few episodes now, I’ve been thinking that if only someone would have noticed the prince’s extreme points of view earlier and realized that this isn’t the way a healthy young adult acts. Maybe if he had a doctor to look after his mental health, things wouldn’t have gotten so bad?
“but I feel like the prince needed therapy more than banishment. His skewed reasoning and jumps in logic aren’t exactly what a healthy/emotionally balanced person would think.”
That is a profoundly interesting idea. I’m going to have to think through the implications of that.
How much of our history would that idea have changed? How could we use it to change where we are today? I’ve often thought that the desire to restrict the freedom of others, for example, is a form of narcissism. Is it? Am I being narcissistic for thinking so?
That feels like a logic loop!
But seriously, how can we prompt mental health in a way that doesn’t turn it into a tool of the state to suppress differing views? I can make a case that a prominent figure in American politics is mentally ill, but I hesitate to press my case. What if any mechanism we put into place to help people was turned into a tool of oppression?
I can say that trying to hurt others is a sign of mental illness. But what if people who think like me lose the majority? What if the next tribe that comes to power says anyone who cares about others is a bleeding heart whatever?
Hmmm. I kind of got far away from your original idea, which I still think is great. I wish I could think of a way to apply it!
