The Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 10 Review – Quick Summary
In The Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 10, “The Inter-Academy Exams,” the Hero and Demon students start their inter-academy activities with a demonstration of their respective magics. The Hero demonstration goes well, but the demon student can’t even get a basic spell to work. Anos Voltegourde saw instantly that the Heroes were cheating, and he easily exposed them — much to the humiliation of the Demon Royalists. But that was only the beginning of the Heroes’ treachery. With the majority of the Demon students not wanting Anos to participate, and with the Heroes so bent on cheating, do the Demon King Academy students stand a chance? Or do the Heroes have something even more nefarious in mind?

Favorite Quote from Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 10
Sasha and Misha asked Anos to go out for an evening at a festival. When Anos asked what festival it was, Misha replied that the festival was to celebrate the birth of the hero Jerga.
Remembering his own run-in with Jerga in the previous episode, Anos said drily (07:25), “Oh, that guy?”
Anos’ dismissive tone spoke volumes!
Best in Show Moment for The Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 10
Rivest might be loathe to let Anos heal him, but when Anos appealed to his desire to ease his teacher’s worry? Checkmate. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Revest’s Resentment Simmers…
The Royalists really, really don’t like Anos. Even when he helps them, they still hate him. Early in the episode, Rivest tried to show off the Demon Lord Academy’s skills by transforming a rat. However, he struggled, and it was only after Anos showed how the Hero Academy’s representation had cast an interfering spell that it was plain that Rivest wasn’t incompetent. He had just been tricked.
But he hated Anos for pointing it out.
Later, when a Demon King Academy team conducted an underwater exercise against the Hero Academy, Rivest’s team got trounced. Not just a little; they were completely routed. They didn’t even understand why.
Instead of explaining how the Heroes had done it, Anos shared his Demonic Eyes with Menou Historia, their teacher. The Heroes had mixed holy water with the lake’s natural water. Holy Water drained the magical energy from Rivest and his team, while at the same time bolstering the other side. Even worse, the Heroes used holy weapons in the exercise. Wounds left by such weapons were almost impossible for most Demons to heal. When Anos rescued Rivest and his team from drowning, most of them had such wounds. Menou tried to heal Rivest, but her powers weren’t enough.
Rivest refused to let Anos treat him — at first. Did Anos take offense? Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
When Anos stepped up to help, Rivest slapped Anos’ hand away and said (19:03), “I refused to be treated by you!”
Did Anos take umbrage?
Delivery: …But Anos Overcomes It
Nah. Anos is above letting people like Rivest get under his skin. I half expected Anos to simply ignore the remark and either walk away or heal the guy anyway. I mean, he is the Demon King. He can do what he wants.
What’s cool is that he did do what he wanted. What he wanted was to reinforce his identity in front of everyone, including Rivest and Menou.
Invoking Demon King Teaching Mode(tm), Anos said (19:07), “I admire your grit. But if anything happens to the fledgling before it leaves the nest, the onus would fall on the parent bird.”
Rivest seemed shocked. Anos was referring to Menou as the “parent bird,” and she was openly weeping with worry. That single statement pretty much disarmed Rivest.
Anos went on to say, “Are you so weak that you can’t submit to something unpleasant for your mentor’s sake, Rivest?”
One look at the tears in his teacher’s eyes shattered Rivest’s stubbornness. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Her expression, plus Anos’ unexpected direction, convinced Rivest to not only relent, but also to turn over what he’d learned of the other team’s strategies and tactics. Once again, Anos relied not only on his strength to rescue the other students. He relied on his style to make his point. The Royalists aren’t ready to buy into his kingship yet, but one thing’s for certain. After the trouncing they took in this episode, they’re beginning to look at Anos in a new light.
