The Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 2 Review – Quick Summary

In The Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 2, “The Witch of Destruction,” Anos Voltegourde learned part of the reason so many at school look down on him: they don’t think he’s really in the Demon King clan because they remember the wrong Demon King name! So, no matter what he does, with the exception of those who have experienced his power first hand, no one believes his claims. He put their ignorance to the test when Sasha Necron, Misha Necron’s older sister, challenged him to a team match. Against him, Sasha planned to use ten or fifteen powerful students. Anos will use only one, Misha. Will Sasha realize her error before Anos destroys her — and her team? Will Misha miss her older sister? And what will Anos’ mom Isabella fix for his celebration dinner?

The Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 2

The Misfit of Demon King Academy Ep 2: Sasha might not be Demon King powerful, but she's no pushover, either.

Standing amid the wreckage of her castle, Sasha finally understood, at least a little, how powerful Anos was. But she wasn’t willing to give up without a fight. I’d expect nothing less from the Witch of Destruction. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Setup: Sasha as the Epitome of Class Arrogance

We got a little more background on why staff and students still look down on Anos, even after he announced his name. It’s because 2,000 years ago, someone said the Demon King of Tyranny’s name was Avos Dilhevia. Everyone just thinks Anos is a fake! It also seems that the Indu brothers weren’t saying much after their encounter in the previous episode. Plus, Anos doesn’t come from a prestigious family. Only Misha treats him with any respect.

Misha’s sister Sasha is one of the more arrogant folks. Known as the Witch of Destruction, she was indignant when Anos corrected the teacher in a matter of magic. Sasha was even more outraged when the teacher announced they were to form teams and Anos put himself forward as a potential captain, in opposition to herself. Only Misha joined his team.

She was so put out that she tried to unleash her Demonic Eyes of Destruction on him (09:57). Basically, a rune formed in her irises, and there was supposed to be some painful impact. The other students recoiled in expectation that Anos would double over in pain.

She was shocked when he just sat there. Well, at least until he stood, ignited his own Demonic Eyes of Destruction, and extinguished hers. Embarrassed and humiliated, still believing that she could defeat him and Misha with her entire team, she bided her time.

The Misfit of Demon King Academy Ep 2: Sasha was shocked her Demonic Eyes of Destruction had no effect on Anos.

Sasha was shocked that her Demonic Eyes of Destruction had zero effect on Anos. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Now, 10 minutes into the first episode, we knew that Anos was over powered (OP). There’s no drama to any fight he enters. The writers might try to introduce some later, but even in this episode, there was no doubt that Anos would win. The only questions were how would he win, and what would Sasha do about it.

Delivery: Sasha Pulls Herself and Her Team Together

The two teams setup their bases. Each team had a king (Sasha and Anos). The king provided magical energy to his team. The goal was to capture the king or force them to deplete their energy. Sasha showed that she was a competent, even a good, leader. She arranged her troops and prepared her tactics. Sasha knew that Anos had strong personal magic, but she had complete confidence in her abilities and the abilities of her team.

She was in no way expecting Anos to walk up to her castle, alone, and pick it up. Yes, he picked up her castle. Then he threw it high into the air, caught it on one finger, started spinning it like a basketball, and hurled it into the distance.

The Misfit of Demon King Academy Ep 2: Anos twirled Sasha's castle as if it were a basketball.

That’s a full size castle. Anos spun it on his finger. I assume he thought he could get more distance on his throw if he got a good spin on it! See that tiny dot under the castle, about in the middle? That’s Anos. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

As funny as that was, it’s not my favorite moment. My favorite moment is what Sasha did about it. A stupid, arrogant leader would have ignored what just happened and would try to carry on the fight. A coward would have flown the white flag and withdrawn. Sasha did neither.

To her incredulous team, she announced they were going to try a spell called Jio Graze. The spell was too complex, they said. It has too little a chance of working.

Sasha, showing just how astute she was, said (15:06), “This is no time to cower! Acknowledge our enemy’s power!”

She knew she was in over her head. She knew she was probably going to lose. But she wanted to go down with her eyes open an her magic blazing. I admire that kind of spirit.
