The Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 7 Review – Quick Summary
In The Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 7, “Mother’s Words,” Anos Voltegourde breezed through the first round of the Sword Tournament by crushing the brother of his teacher Emilia Rudewell. She took it personally, and she was not the forgiving sort. As Anos took Misa Iriologue to investigate the cause of the disease killing the mother of Ray Gransdori, Isabella, Anos’ own mother, tried to take his sword home to keep it safe. The Anos Fan Union served as her body guard. Emilia, stung by the humiliation of Anos’ victory, tried to take her anger out on Isabella and the Fan Union. Will she get her way? Or will Anos become aware of the confrontation? And if he does, how will he react to the threat to his mother?

Favorite Quote from Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 7
Explaining his sword’s power to Emilia’s fallen brother, Anos said, “There’s something other than Magic Power in a sword forged so lovingly by a true craftsman” (01:15). It was adorable seeing how emotional Anos’ dad Guster got over that!
Best in Show Moment for The Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 7

The Anos Fan Union members were overjoyed that they’d protected Isabella and had earned Anos’ respect. Oh, and that they were still alive, too! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: The Anos Fan Union was Serious
So far, the Anos Fan Union has been a source of humor. It’s never been demeaning. Instead, the show had gently poked fun at just how much Anos appealed to the young women. The beginning of the episode continued that trend when they sang the song “Sir Anos’ Fight Song, Chorus Number 2” (00:10) during his match.
We got some hints that there’s more to them than their crushes on the main character. They represent a segment of the population called “hybrids,” and the pure-blooded Royalists look down on them and treat them cruelly. In this episode, the Fan Union proved conclusively that they are serious, and that they’ll willing to do more than idolize Anos.
When Anos easily struck down Emilia’s brother, we saw her furious reaction. After the match, Anos had an errand to run, so he entrusted his sword to his mother Isabella. The Anos Fan Union enthusiastically agreed to be her body guards. Of course Isabella got on famously with the young women. They chatted happily as night fell. The Emilia stopped them and demanded the sword.

At first, Emilia tried to take the sword through trickery. Violence followed. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
She would not take “no” for an answer. In fact, she was more than willing to simply murder all of them to get the sword to disqualify Anos. When Isabella objected to Emilia attacks, saying that these were her precious students, Emilia removed all doubt about her villainy (as if any remained).
“Students? Hybrids are just thieves eavesdropping on my classes” (13:07) she spat.
Delivery: Anos Recognized Their Efforts
This show surprised me in how effectively it evoked the horror of the fight that followed. The Anos Fan Union tried to defend Isabella by erecting a magical shield. Emilia blew it away, leaving them singed and badly hurting. Then, singing a halting rendition of “Sir Anos’ Fight Song, Chorus Number 2,” they made their last stand.
Emilia burned each one of them to death. Then she turned her attention to Isabella.
By now, Anos had become aware of the fight. He teleported and swatted aside Emilia’s attack on Isabella.
We’ve never seen Anos angry before. We have now, and it was so impressive that the moment was in contention for Best in Show. But that award goes to what Anos did for the Anos Fan Union.
Holding Emilia immobilized, he resurrected all of the young women. Of course, they were really happy to be alive. They were even more happy that it was Anos who had brought them back. But despite his fury at Emilia, as they sat up, he went down on one knee. Looking intently at each one of them he said, “Tell me your names.”

Anos asked them to tell him their names. He listened intently to each of them. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
He listened silently as each one introduced herself. He repeated their names back to them so they would know he had heard them. When they had finished, he bowed his head to them and said, “I’ll never forget your names as long as I live. I’m indebted to you.”
The Anos Fan Union believed that he was the resurrected Demon King, so they had put their lives on the line for him and his mom. It was his turn to come through for them. It’s too rare when a leader lives up to the expectations of his or her people. Fortunately for the Anos Fan Union, they hitched their wagon to the right horse!
What did you think of the punishment Anos gave Emilia? What was your Best in Show moment? Let me know in the comments!
