The Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 9 Review – Quick Summary
In The Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 9, “The Mystery of the Hero Academy,” Anos Voltegourde learned that the class was going to the capital to test against the Hero Academy. Melheis Boran urged Anos to be careful, because that school’s elite class trained only resurrected heroes — in a time of peace! Anos, Sasha, Misha, Ray, and Misa teleport to the capital. The others went on various errands while Anos and Sasha visited the Hero Academy. There, they met Eleonore Bianca, who agreed to show them to the library. Much to Sasha’s consternation, they learned that Heroes think Kanon had defeated the Demon King of Tyranny. Moreover, they believe that Kanon also created the walls to keep humanity safe. Who’s behind all these lies? And why does Eleanor warn Anos that meeting one of Kanon’s four reincarnations currently at the school will disappoint him?

Favorite Quote from Misfit of Demon King Academy Episode 9
In this episode’s flashback, Jerga, Kanon’s senpai, screamed something about demons killing his mom, so he was going to eradicate all demons from the Earth. Gathering the power of all his followers, he lunged towards Anos with the intent to kill.
Plunging his hand effortlessly through Jerga’s chest, Anos said (01:45), “You humans killed my mother, as well.” Turning his attention back to Kanon, he continued the previous conversation as if nothing had happened. “As I was saying, if you have any interest, come to my castle Delsgade.”
Just the Demon King doing Demon King things!

Sasha’s expression says she’s just about where she wants to be. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Sasha and Anos in the Capital
Anos and Sasha were walking through the bazar as Anos told her he wanted to get a look at the Hero Academy. Sasha, frowning, told him he’d better be careful because they didn’t want to cause a ruckus. Think about that or a second. She and Misha, more than anyone in the world, know exactly who he is. Yet, she’s comfortable and trusts him enough to be that kind of honest.
I really like these characters.
Earlier in the episode, Anos had given Sasha, Misha, and Ray some extra training, and he didn’t go easy on them. So now, when he said that Sasha shouldn’t worry about a ruckus because even he had some common sense, she scoffed, asking if the same common sense almost killed them during the training session.
He brushed aside the question and said that she and the others had done very well; commendable, even.
“You’re quite worthy of having the same Demonic Eyes as myself,” he added (13:38).
Right in the middle of the bazar, Anos plainly told a tsundere that she was awesome. Guy likes to play with fire! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
“I’m not falling for your compliments, all right?” she said, stammering a bit (13:43).
Anos’s response? Challenge accepted!

The blush hadn’t faded from Sasha’s face when Anos leaned close to her and said, “Sasha, when I told you before how beautiful your Demonic Eyes were, I wasn’t lying, you know.”
Her shocked and flustered expression (13:59) showed that she’d more or less already fallen for his compliment. But this is Anos we’re talking about, and simply overpowering a foe (in this case, her tsundere) wasn’t enough. He had to win with style.
When she tried weakly to protest, he went on to say, “Listen, in that moment, I desired those eyes of yours.”
Her flustered got even worse. Then he delivered the coup de grâce. He said, “Surely, you’re not such a child that you don’t know what that means.”
No, she wasn’t “such a child.” She knew exactly what he meant. And her eyes showed how she felt about it. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
His expression was matter of fact. Hers, on the other hand, wasn’t. Her Demonic Eyes went active and almost destroyed some of the stalls around them. Anos seemed pleased. At another victory? Or that he’d shown Sasha something about herself?
That was all well and good, but the best moment was when he helped her power down by asking her to look into his eyes, which he’d just powered up. She murmured that they were pretty eyes.
“Yours are even more beautiful,” he said to her (14:32). “So serene and innocent.” She calmed and the stalls were spared further damage.
The thing I like about this is that Sasha is a completely willing partner. She’s tsundere, but not comically so. It’s more an awkwardness that is endearing, but it’s not something that traps her. As proof, she said, “Fine, then. If you want them, you can have my eyes.” The sentence structure was that of a tsundere, but her tone wasn’t. She was exactly where she wanted to be.

Demon Tatsuya
They share a lot of similarities, don’t they?
So much so that I thought they might have the same voice actors, but they don’t.
Black hair and stoic personality
At first I thought this show was going to be boring but it has improved.
I had hoped it would be lightly entertaining. It’s exceeded my expectations quite a bit.
I had hoped, too, it would be lightly entertaining, and (except for a very mild case of diminishing returns) it pretty much met my expectations. I can’t say this show’s anything special in either direction, and I doubt I’ll ever actively remember it. (As always, only time will tell. I’m not always a good judge of what I’ll remember and how.)
